KPRC Local 2 is now finally broadcasting in HD

The NBC Houston station made the change during Last Night's (7-19) Newscast anchored by Rachel McNeil-Just in time for the upcoming coverage of The Olympics next month. I hope this will boost up out of 4th Place, because Channels 11 & 13 are way ahead of the pack.

Who else hasn't been doing the news in HD? We know 11 and 13 like to emphasize that and I'll take your word for channel 2. Has 26 been broadcasting in HD for some time (like when they introduced the O&O FNC-style set)? I'm also hearing rumors about 39 in HD and a morning show on this board too.

Channel 26 will introduce their HD newscast when they launch their 5P News in August. I noticed Ch 2 in HD this morning watching the Today Show when they cut to the weather. All in HD. Looks good, but it's the content that will boost 2's News, not the fact that it's in HD. Before they see higher ratings they need to totally retool their Sports Dept, dump Dominique Sachsa to an earlier newscast (noon to 4P), possibly demote Frank Billingsly to noon/4p and get a more credible chief weather anchor and quit having a reporter revolving door. HD will help, but only a very few (relative to the market) have HD. Content is still king!

Hmmm - when I saw the 7:15 weather cut-in, Khambrel was in 4x3 SD...

IIRC, the 7:25 newsbreak had the HD traffic person over SD video (need to get Transtar to upgrade their cameras to HD, if everyone's in HD now...). I think Khambrel was in 16x9 HD at 7:25.

I like the L3's better than the previous ones, but (to me) the Red is a little overpowering - wonder if it's just for the Olympics or will be longer term...

After watching things in HD, the SD video really sucks...

I was wondering where Khambrel was. He used to be an anchor for Channel 2, in which he was demoted from that job, alongside Linda Lorelle-who quietly left the station to run her real-estate business with her husband. Apparently, Khambrel kept a low-profile while he discovered an opening for a weatherman position at the station. (The Weekend Meteorogist-Eric Braate-left for WDIV, another P-N owned, NBC affilliated station)

Khambrel left to be an executive producer. Now, he is currently getting his certification through Mississippi State.

He is one of the few people who has been a sports reporter/anchor, a news anchor, and now a weathercaster through his career.

I think Khambrel has been like The Jack of All Trades over at Local 2. Not bad for a guy who started out his TV career as a sports reporter in his hometown, Miami.
