KPRC Local 2 now has new general manager

Will be interesting to see who he brings in as news director. They've toned things down quite a bit in the past few years. Hopefully they won't revert to the over-the-top hyperventilating.

Hopefully he'll drop the "KPRC" part in the name too. In my opinion, saying "KPRC Local 2" is just a mouthful... and irritating in a way.

The Local 2 may go before the KPRC. They no long actually broadcast on channel 2 and the over-the-air crowd who see "2-1" or "2.1" on their TV can't be that big.

The Local 2 thing is a corporate mandate from Post-Newsweek. WDIV is Local 4, WPLG is Local 10, WKMG is Local 6, etc. KSAT has somehow been able to avoid calling its newscasts Local 12, although the bug alternates between KSAT 12 and Local 12.

Don't forget WJXT, which is known as Channel 4, the Local Station.

Hopefully, with a new general manager in charge, KPRC gets a new logo. They been using their 2 logo since around 1994.

You don't like the star 2? It is almost 20 years old -- whoa! -- but I still think it looks pretty modern. Doesn't seem dated to me. Has some character. I guess we'll see ...

The Star 2 is the only thing I like about KPRC. It's similar to KXAS' Star 5, which has been in use for over 30 years.

Maybe KPRC will call itself NBC 2 or NBC Houston. To mandate with other large market NBC affiliates, which call themselves as NBC 4, NBC 5, NBC Bay Area, etc.

They're not gonna do that for the reason stated above ... KPRC's owners have forced all their stations to use the Local XX brand. Most of the larger markets have NBC-owned stations so, yes, they go by NBC XX.
