Who is Byron Miranda? Did he take Wes' position during the morning and noon newscasts?

Also, where's Don Armstrong?

Is Kyma Alvarado-Booth expecting?

I didn't realize Sarah Allen was even pregnant!

I sure hate that they've downgraded Linda's & Khambrel's roles... they were great!
Edited by ray2005 on 01/23/06 01:29 PM.

On linda/khambrel...its been known for awhile they're going to being in some heavy hitters for the afternoon/evening casts. While id rather seen linda anchoring in one of those slots, it just wasnt in the cards. On Khambrel, the man is inconsistant from day to day and cant hold his own..he needs to be sent back to the minors.

Wes Hoenstein's contract was not renewed and his last day was yesterday (Sunday 1/22). I'm not sure, but I believe Don Armstrong's contract was also not renewed. Byron Miranda must be the replacement weather anchor. No surprise, but he is African American. Remember, KPRC has been accused by many Black advocacy groups in Houston of mistreating their black news anchors. This is just another in a long line of changes the station is going through in order to improve their lackluster ratings, which have had them in 3rd and 4th place in the market for the past few years now. Maybe they should look past the anchor desk into the News Director's office. KPRC's tabloid style has been horrible for years. Perhaps if they went with delivering the news instead of the headlines, they could be stable. Look at KTRK. Many of their anchors and reporters have been there over 20+ years. When they make changes, they are subtle and without firing anyone. Stability is what breeds loyalty and if you know the Houston market you know that loyalty is the key to news ratings.

Wes's departure has been the worst-kept secret in town. Word has been out for months that they were going to dump him. He even hinted that his time with KPRC was nearing an end during the hurricane coverage ... and that was months ago. He hasn't landed a new gig yet, as far as I know. Byron Miranda has a ton of experience in the big leagues, having anchored weather at CNN, as well as KCBS in LA and WMAQ in Chicago. Will he single-handedly solve the ratings freefall in the mornings? Doubtful.

Don Armstrong had been offered a gig doing voice work for some car racing concern, this past fall. He had resigned. Roger Bateman of Newstalk 1070 KNTH relayed that info to me. They are good friends.

Agree 100%. Nancy Shafran should have been booted to the curb the same time Steve Wasserman was transferred to Detroit. The woman thought a dog would bring in better ratings, so she forced it on poor Frank Billingsly (and promoted it out the freaking wazoo). Not saying the man doesn't like Radar, but seriously, talk about a gimick.

I moved to Houston in May 1997 and it's my understanding she had been there for a couple years already at that point. How she's managed to stay there for almost 10+ years is beyond me. She must have some good s**t on Post-Newsweek people and they're too afraid to to fire her. How else do you explain that long of a tenure for a news director who has taken the station from a strong #2 to a distant #3?
