KPRS K.C. Finally Streaming

This was posted earlier on one of the other boards.

Nice to see it, still owned by Carter Broadcasting I believe. :)

http://www.kprs.com/

So, in the big markets which FM stations aren't streaming right now

WQHT New York
WRKS New York
KPWR Los Angeles
WZAK Cleveland
WENZ Cleveland
WKJM Richmond

That might be it.

Now that I have been able to listen to KPRS for the first time in about 3 years, I have to say they definitely sound better than your cookie cutter Urban owned by CC or Radio One. They still sort of have a locally owned sound though perhaps not to the degree as say 5-10 years ago. I especially liked the Urban ACish cuts in the midday. One can only take so much Little Wayne.

I would rank them with WDKX Rochester and WJTT Chattanooga as some of the better sounding FM urbans.

They do sound great. They have that locally owned sound, because: 1) It is the oldest black-owned station in the United States (Mom & Pop stations should make a comeback), 2) the Carter family are from KC, plus the GM is the 3rd generation Carter and 3) other than Steve Harvey in the morning and the quiet storm (which is jockless), all the jocks are live.

Notice those stations that you have posted are owned by either Emmis (who doesn't like streaming and ordered Power 106 in LA to halt their streaming about 4 years ago) or Radio One (who has stations streaming - Dallas, St. Louis, B-More and Chocolate City (Washington, D.C.) - and haven't got to Cleveland or Richmond yet).

Actually, Emmis seems to like streaming fine, unless it is an urban station, they stream all of their other major market stations in various formats.

As for Radio One, the Cleveland group must have decided long ago for whatever reason that it did not want to be streamed - Indy, Cincy and Columbus have been streamed for a long time. Two of the Richmond stations are now streamed, the only one that isn't is the Urban AC.
