KPXI 100.7 Tyler Sold

Its been a week since the flip, and they are still simulcasting.

I guess it's technical troubles, but I also wonder if there's been a conflict running ESPN radio with Gleiser's KYZS since KWRD-AM's signal does reach into Tyler?

Are they still simulcasting?

If what you described about clearing ESPN Radio is true, putting "Solid Gospel" on AM1470 would be the perfect compliment. I know Hanszen has done that on both KGAS(AM) and KMHT(AM), but it's not lasted all that long on either of those sticks. I'm betting the Henderson/Rusk County area would probably support some "good ol' Southern Gospel music" on the radio.

As of today (March 20) they were still simulcasting. It is pretty good (very) local radio though.

Got a chance to listen to KPXI and KWRD today (I'm in East Texas at the moment). KPXI's audio seemed weak to me -- had to turn up the volume in the truck to make it comfortable. Heard KWRD in Longview pretty solid, but KPXI seemed to want to picket-fence there. Anyone else make these same observations?

I agree with your statement. KPXI's signal is not good in Longview, worse than 92.1, and similar to 103.9, IMO.

I had trouble listening to KPXI in downtown Kilgore in the morning a couple days ago.

I have the feeling Hanzen or who's doing his engineering doesn't like a lot of loud compression on his stations and tries to run them as clean as possible. But to me thats not a good idea when Clear Channel, Access One, Reynolds and others in the market crank their Optimods to 99.9%.

Didn't that used to be a monster stick up around Mt. Pleasant or somewhere?

It sure was, about 985 feet. The tower was 17 miles southwest of Mount Pleasant (near the town of Purley) and KPXI could be heard along I-30 from just east of Dallas to well past Texarkana.

"Rockin' on the X"

I used to have one of their bumper stickers. Wasn't a half bad station.

The skip (tropospheric ducting) has been very intense the last several months especially in the morning. You can almost bet that any time a front comes through East Texas, FM radio as well as TV reception will go nuts. Normally, KPXI puts a decent signal into Kilgore.

Is AM1470 still simulcasting or are they now running ESPN sports? Haven't seen anything about that on here or on their website.
