As I understand it 1310 ownership group got out of the Albuquerque market and 1310 was their last signal so they sold when a buyer became available. It wasn't them leaving due to ratings or money. Just the group leaving town... Once again that is as I understand it. If I'm wrong someone please correct me...
From my experience in talk radio local sells way better than national. Whether it is buddy buys or just the fact that the local guy can come say hello, do remotes, or whatever else. If I'm not mistaken the Cowboys are available and that should be the first team the new station should lock up. If not them go for the Broncos and/or Raiders. If you're talking baseball get Dodgers, Yankees, and/or Cubs, don't mess with Rockies or Diamondbacks unless that is the only option. I would only touch the Aggies if they are sold. Try to get the local teams I guess though I'm not sure how much of a radio following the Scorpions have as they don't even get that many people in the arena. However if there is money lock them up, the T-Birds, Wildcats, and really go hard with HS sports which is big in this state.
Years ago prior to Tafoya ruining KDEF there were 2 sports stations going and going strong, but it wasn't the fact that both stations couldn't be supported as much as it was horrible management at 1150 that caused the demise of that station. DoubleC I don't know if you read the posts on the link but I find that most fans don't care for the Animal hosts and an alternative would be welcomed. Hopefully O'Neill doesn't make the mistake of 106.3 and try to be the same as 610. Be different, stick with it awhile, and it will beat out the Animal.
