KQED-FM/TV TO CUT STAFF

Notable in the article:

No reporters will leave San Francisco's KQED-FM, and no TV staff will depart, officials said. Employees with enough seniority were offered a buyout package; others were dismissed immediately.

No reporters. No TV staff. Plenty of others, though.

...which means that the next round of cuts, if any, will be ugly...

So who is there to fire locally? I don't hear much local on KQED radio. Michael Krasney is about it. Evrything else is from the NPR network.

There are a few other on-air staff, like announcers, plus off-air staff like producers and technicians. I know The California Report is produced at KQED. It runs on other NPR stations, but probably just in-state. I don't know for sure, but I'd assume the anchor, reporters, and ancillary staff for that show are employed by KQED.

Huh? There are daily local newscasts, features, and weekly programs. KQED also produces the Commonwealth Club broadcasts, too.

I guess they will cut the 5,6 and 10pm newscast next. If they didn't fire their reporters. It will probably look like KRON's newscasts real soon, now THAT will be U G L Y !
