KQKE 960 to become KKGN, "Green 960"

From the KQKE website, via the '8.27.07' link on Friday 8/24/07 A.D.:

http://www.quakeradio.com/pages/john_scott.html

[EDIT]

(San Francisco, CA – August 21, 2007) – Progressive talk radio station, KQKE-AM, will evolve into “Green 960” (KKGN-AM) starting August 27th.

Program Director, Bob Agnew, says, “This is a natural evolution for the station. We are in the most environmentally-conscientious market in the country, and our listeners have let us know the depth of their concern and their desire to be part of the solution. “Green 960” will entertain, educate, and motivate people on the need to recycle, sustain, preserve, and protect this place we call Mother Earth.”

In support of its new focus, Green 960 will debut “Green Seed Radio”, the first daily prime time radio program dedicated to environmental news and issues. Produced in conjunction with the Green Building Exchange, the show will feature news and information focused on green technology, green business, environmental tips and education, interview segments and listener interaction. The program will be featured daily on Green 960 from 3-4pm.

Michael Schaeffer, Founder of the Green Building Exchange adds, “The decision for us to partner with Clear Channel was obvious, from our point of view. They share our commitment to generate interest in environmental issues. We will be using the radio as a powerful instrument to help shift the green economy. Additionally, as a company they are the first to begin the process of greening their stations, which hopefully will lead other broadcasters in that same direction.”

Green 960 will also expand the Progressive News Hour to two hours (4p-6p) and replace some commercial breaks with a daily series of three-minute “green vignettes”, which will profile leaders and businesses at the forefront of the green movement.

Clear Channel SF/SJ President and Market Manager, Kim Bryant, noted, “This change to Green 960 and our partnership with the Green Building Exchange are just one step in our overall commitment to increase consumer awareness and education concerning the environment.”

Does this mean that their "Win a New BMW" contest will change to "Win a New Prius?" ... or better yet - "Win a Six Month Free Pass on BART?"

LOL - Actually if they hired Dr. Bill to displace their afternoon programs 3p-6p, Dr. Bill would beat every other talk station in not only San Francisco, and in all the neighboring markets served by KGO (with the exception of Peter B. Collins in Monterey!).

I'd like to see Bob Brinker do weekdays with his Oil and Alternative energy guests like Charlie Maxwell and Richard Heinberg.

When is Spotted Al Gore on? ;D

The KKGN calls could just as easily be phonetically pronounced as "K-GUN"
which would really tick off the PC crowd.

And just in case I don't get back to the Bay Area Board before October,
I'd like to wish the Berkeleyites a Happy Columbus Day!

If Dr Bill was ever that good, KGO would have had him in a regular prime time shift years ago. Doubt if he could ever catch Dr. Wiener Savage.

He's too busy working at his regular job in Livermore to do a daily shift on KGO. Does anyone know how old he is?

Haha, good point. That would be living up to their name/image.

Call it whatever you want...At least the station recycles it's own garbage.

Someone asked how old Dr. Bill is. He said it on his program once, he was born in 1932.

Not sure if he still works at Livermore anymore.

Has anyone looked in the owners manual for a Prius to see if Toyota recommends premium gas or not? lol

I hear Dr. Bill is doing his shows from home - in Redding, Calif., no?

I have also heard that he does it from home, and doesn't come in to the station. Wait until radio finally upgrades from ISDN someday, then no air talent will ever have to go in to a station. Oh, wait...some of them do that already....it's called voice tracking...just as good as live, without the bother of being up to the minute, in touch with listeners, etc.

Sure, voice-tracking is evil and all that - blah, blah...but talk hosts and DJs have been doing their shows LIVE from home for years. Lee Rodgers has lived somewhere in Arizona for a few years now. Jim Eason left the sinful Bay Area and did the last 5 years or more of his show on KSFO from his home in North Carolina.

Half of the popular Kevin and Bean morning team at KROQ in LA does the show from Washington state, with the other one in studio in LA.

When Dr. Don Rose was laid up in bed for so long in the 80s, he still did his K-101 show live from his bedroom in the East Bay.

Nothing new there..

Few know that Lovable Lee Rogers on KSFO has been doing a live and local SF show from his big house in Tucson AZ for a few years. Has big video conferencing hookup with Officer Vic and Mel....

You are surely correct that most people don't know, but they can tell something isn't right. Their ratings have dropped literally to half what they were.

One night in June after an earthquake Gene Burns said Dr. Bill called in from the East Bay, saying he felt it. I'm thinking Danville. He also has property in the Sierras.
