I have read that Honolulu finally has a CHR/Pop (although it still has 3 Rhythmic stations). Does anyone have any details about 93.1? What kind of playlist does it feature? Is it Rhythmic leaning, or more Alternative leaning? How is its reception? From what I remember, 93.1 does well in the in the Waikiki area, especially along the perimeter of Ala Moana. But as soon as you travel east on H1, it started to fade in and out. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

93.1 The Zone is sort of Hot AC leaning. I haven't heard current songs by 50 Cent, Fat Joe, Trick Daddy, Missy Elliott, Pretty Ricky, Game, Bow Wow, Lil' Rob, Brooke Valentine, and Nivea on KQMQ. If you want to hear those songs/artists, I guess they're saying tune into their sister station 102.7 Da Bomb/KDDB.

You're thinking KQMQ had great reception in the Ala Moana area because their transmitter was located at the KGMB-TV studios on Kapiolani Boulevard. They now transmit from the Waianae Mountain range near Makakilo. Their signal sounds great even in East Honolulu. You might get fading on the Windward side though.

I just got back from Hawaii today...and it was frustrating not finding a "real" top 40 station (i.e. one that plays all the hits). It was pretty much all hip-hop (93.9, 102.7 and 104.3 all play the same stuff!!).

True, 93.1 was more AC than Top-40. Heard stuff like Green Day "Blvd of Dreams," Gwen Stefaini "Cool," Backstreet Boys, Hillary Duff, etc... They did play The Killers and Gorillaz Inc, but IMO, the station lacks the Energy and you have to sit through some boring stuff to get to some good songs. A station like Sirius Hits 1 would have been ideal........does Sirius even make it out there, I wonder??
