Denver KQMT-HD2 quits laughing

Audacy has dropped the all-comedy programming on KQMT-HD2, replacing it with a simulcast of sports-betting KAMP(AM), "The Bet". I believe this happened last week. The real surprise is how long the all-comedy format lasted, considering that most Audacy HD-only formats ended years ago. Audacy leases KQMT-HD3 to Colorado Springs' KTLF(FM) for use as a translator feed. I've assumed that this lease was the main reason for Audacy to retain an HD-2 channel on 99.5.

The all-comedy format had not aired on a translator since it was displaced in favor of "Front Range Country" on 103.1 more than three years ago.

A Reddit post seems to indicate it happened a couple months ago, but regardless what a sad end to what was once an over 3 share brand with unique programming.

A variation of the programming is still streaming on the Audacy app as "Comedy Now"

I know the comedy format was still on before I left for Europe in mid-June. The switch probably happened before I returned home.

I could have been more clever with the subject line. It could have been: "KQMT-HD2 is not amused. You bet!"

More seriously, it seems as though Audacy is putting some effort into KAMP, between this move and adding a Mile High Sports show in the afternoons. The station has a small niche in the crowded Denver sports-talk market, and ticks a format box for agency buys. And I don't know what else that's sustainable that one would do with it.
