I would put on KJR FM just to expose them to what used to be. Education is always happening, but it is especially important when one is young.

Well ordinarily, AM would sound like crap in a car, but on a school bus, I highly doubt those vehicles are equipped with a Hi-Fi stereo setup for anyone to notice or worry about. So i'd have to agree, that Radio Disney would probably be the way to go! Some mainstream AC artists and their songs do at times get airplay on the station as well.
Interesting thoughts guys. I will also have to pay a little more attention to be prepared for this kind of question. Hmmmmmm, this isn't my best area. A thought did cross my mind today, if the only reason that swearing isn't allowed on the radio is to protect children, then maybe other measures should be taken as well? Not that I'm saying that the swearing ban should be lifted, interesting question. When I was in elementary school about the only exposure I got to current hits was the hour or so I got to listen to KBKS in the afternoon, and I thought at the time that they played mostly rap so didn't pay attention, except when Michel Branch came on the radio. They would play her current hit every day. My cousins made the switch to 106.1 from 1250 around the same time. My station at this time was KLSY and its AC format, or had it shifted to Hot AC by then I don't remember, I do know I was in second grade. Not sure what else to say.
KLSY shifted to Hot AC in 2002. And, I personally don't think young kids on the bus should listen to 92.5. Even though this is coming from an 18 year old. Have them listen to 98.9. Yes, Jubal and his shenanigans, which always enlighten me, are pretty funny. But, playing Sexy and I Know It in front of 7 year olds probably isn't good for their brains. Haha I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not. Anyway, it may depend on how old the bus driver is. If its a 20 something, then I can see where to turn on 92.5. If its some 40 year old that acts like a child, yes. If its a 40 year old that acts like an "actual" parent, then I could see them turning on Jack or something.bobdavcav said:
I remember after I came back up here to Washington state from San Diego in 1994 (was in middle school at the time), the bus driver turned the radio to KOMO 1000 and it had music. I believe that was back when it still was a "full service" station.
I am a teenager, 19 years old, I program RDL101.com which is Rhythmic CHR. Are we appropriate for kids? For the most part, but here's my opinion on this:
Kids that do listen to top 40/hip-hop music don't listen to it on the radio as much as they do their phones and iPod and it's the dirty version. We only play clean music, so I'd say so! Plus, we're not playing anything too "urban" that they're not being exposed to anyway. If there's an Adult CHR in the market, I'd go to that because it plays the Katy Perry, LMFAO, Rihanna PLUS the safe Nickelback, Adele, and Rob Thomas.
I've been listening to "Hot Jamz" and they seem like a pretty good station that plays CHR with a rhythmic lean, but not ghetto.

If you program rhythmic CHR, then why is your username what it is? Both you and ksradiogeek have good points. If we were in a market like Fayetteville NC, I'd suggest Q98, but the closest we have to that here in Seattle is KPLZ, and I think he's keeping it there. If I am asked this next week by another driver, I will refer to this thread. I assume you have a few other stations as well?
