While researching FM radio history in Central California I came across a station called KQNO in Coalinga (97.3 MHz). Apparently the licensed was cancelled in the 2012-2013 timeframe. A Google-Earth look at both the original "Class A" and later upgraded "Class B1" transmitter coordinates show just barren lands. When KQNO's license was finally cancelled by the FCC the last paperwork listed the power output as 6.5kw ERP, not the earlier 25kw ERP. Question: Was the station ever on the air? If so, what format?
As an aside, I know the westside of the valley historically has not proved commerically viable with stations like KNGS (FM), KKFO (AM), etc. Now even Family Radio has been forced recently "to take silent" KFRP as they lost their transmitter site arrangement.
