KQPT The Point in Chico

What is going on with this station? There hasn't been a website or stream in months, probably years. Has new ownership taken over? When I called them a couple months ago they said they were working on another website but so far nothing. What a bummer.

This use to be a pretty decent Hot AC station...since Mapleton took over it has been nothing but a roller coaster... If they were smart they would drop the 80's (BOB owns that anyway) and go a little younger not straight ahead Top 40 but lean that way

I totally agree with you on that one. The Point has really gone down hill over the last few years. Rarely any DJs, and the 80's thing sure doesn't help in my opinion.

mapleton destroyed a good station. Used to be mod ac and it did well. Then it lost what it was and ventured too far into girlie pop.

no one is running the ship. just the cash hemmoraging creating wasted neglected space that it is today.

it's all about the music. create the right musical product for the market and define what you are!

So this is now a mainstream CHR?

No the point is still Hot AC. Although, they don't follow the format very well since they mix in about 50% 80's on the play list. I remember when I first moved up to Chico I loved listening to the Point, but then they started playing a lot of 80's and did away with local on air talent. I miss the days that The Point actually had DJs and a decent morning show. I guess it's a matter of time until Chico's radio gets a makeover.

There are remnants on of a site:
http://107thepoint.com/talent.shtml
http://107thepoint.com/retro.shtml
http://107thepoint.com/opportunities.shtml

http://www.107thepoint.com/ appears dead, although the automated liners still advise listeners to check them out.

I do enjoy the 80s all day long on Saturday 6AM-1159PM. Syndicated Nina Blackwood in the AM and early PM, syndicated RetroMix from 8PM, and a voicetracked female jock in mid-days. Two out of three weeks, the tracking is off by a commercial break or two, with the jock announcing songs that haven't played yet or did play two commercial breaks earlier.

On Sunday AM, they also often play Ryan Seacrest AT40 one week behind.

It's craptastic!

Mapleton has ruined every station they put there hands on, it being the point and club 96.7, that followed a void and they flipped it to kpig, mapleton is the worst local radio group ever

The Point is now running a Satelite fed Hot AC from Dial Global now I think, with Elvis Duran Mornings and On Air w/ Ryan Seacrest (I think) I think the leat they could do is switch to Citadels Hot AC format which has some CHR music with it. Also, does anyone know when the fall book for Chico and Redding comes out?

1. No "On Air With Ryan".... Middays (10AM-12N) are "On Air with Bradley Wright", part of the regular Dial-Global satellite feed. Zach Taylor (12N-4PM) and Cooper Lawrence (4PM-9PM) round out the day.
2. Ryan Seacrest AT40 is Sundays 12N-4PM
3. Elvis Duran Morning Show still has awful sound quality. It must be from the way they handle the delayed feed. The Dial-Global AM Drive with Dave Otto starts at 3AM and like the rest of the satellite feed, sounds crisp and clear.
4. Nearly every weekend, something goes haywire with their automation. Usually it's two shows playing simultaneously. The satellite feed continues while they play their syndicated fare (Nina Blackwood, 12-Inch-RetroMix, Acoustic Sundays, AT-40). A couple Saturdays ago, they played 26 minutes of nonstop commercials and the Dial-Global feed simultaneously.
5. Oddly, last night I saw the "107thepoint" van parked outside Walgreens and then speeding along East Avenue. The van still hyped "modern alternative".

Maybe they sold it & the guy who bought it never got it painted?

But seriously - I'm surprised Mapleton didn't try KPIG on this signal. They could keep the 107-oink-5 moniker and the format could probably garner some listeners in the Sacramento market. KQPT has one fine signal as you go up the hill toward Roseville, Folsom, Shingle Springs, etc.

Yes, the signal is pretty good, I can pick it up very well from my cabin about 15 miles north of Lincoln, I think that with just a little effort 107.5 The Point could be an ok station, I guess thats too much for Mapleton, is their an On Air with Ryan Seacrest affilate in Chico? Is their even one in Redding?

I don't think so. In Chico, there are three non-rock, non-oldies stations, 107.5/107.9 The Point only carries the Hot AC Version of AT40 with Ryan Seacrest (which hardly ever changes and is mostly celebrity interviews). The Mix station (95.1 http://www.kmxi.com) is very AC and soft rock. 92.7 Bob is basically a low-rent "Jack Station" with a wheezing oldster host and a somewhat nifty "Top 9" themed countdown daily @9AM and @9PM (http://www.927bobfm.com).

Redding has a couple hip-hop-y, top-40-ish stations, but the two cities are 75 miles apart and I rarely am that far north. There is very little radio signal overlap.

The cities may share TV stations, but radio is almost entirely separate (and even then, the ABC station in Redding basically covers Only Redding and the CBS/NBC/CW tri-opoly covers Chico with the same newscast across all channels. Fox pipes in KTVU San Francisco on its MyNetwork sister channel and has no news presence at all.)

So with newscasts, KRCR is only Redding News and KHSL/KNVN are all Chico News?

"Only" is too strong, but the focus on KRCR is Redding. The station recently hired the fired former lead anchor on the KHSL/KNVN/CW10 tri-opoly (Kelli Saam) with the intention of "expanding" their coverage. ActionNews mostly covers Chico, but these are the hinterlands of CA. Pretty much anything that happens in the 10-county area gets covered.
