KQRS in 11th place

Unfortunately, they mostly don't play it anymore either. All their vinyl stuff has "*VINYL" in the RDS name, but I don't see it very often at all anymore. I see it maybe a couple times a month, and I have KQ on a good part of the day. Just another loss, I guess...

Yup, that's the one! Love that ID. I think I actually happened to have heard the last time that ID was played before they switched to the Dan Stone imaging...at about 4 AM on a Saturday night just before they went on their FCC-required "educational" bit. It was actually a special, longer version I'd never heard before! Here it is, I also really love it:
Damn! That really hurts! That feels like I just got stabbed with a million knives hearing they dropped the vinyl stuff…that was really good quality music. With all they’ve done to it, I probably won’t listen to KQ again, it hurts too say. There’s just nothing there anymore that’s unique. I hope to god (like you said) someone at KQ will realize the mistakes they are making, as a (now former) listener this really hurts.

I miss that one so much. Is it weird to get emotional hearing old imaging? Lol
Nah. Frankly I do too, haha... I've got a recording of Bob Seger's Night Moves with KQ's old legal ID at the end that honestly makes me feel super emotional. Whenever I play it, I think about sitting outside at 3 AM on a summer night listening to KQ which is something I've done often

Like I said before, I am not trying to bash any of KQRS/Cumulus Minneapolis’ staff. That building is full of wonderful people. I think corporate is the problem. I think from the time Jameson left and Kurdziel became PD, corporate gained some control and screwed KQRS up. Just my theory.

They're done, Less-Cume took all of a great station's money, the frat boys took what they could before being booted to the curb.
Unfortunately, what's left is damaged beyond repair. The station might have to be blown up and started from ground up.

Heard Creedence Clearwater Revival on KQ today for the first time since they changed the imaging a near ago! Felt really happy after that, it's a step in the right direction! Hopefully they also remove that awful new TOTH that clips the beginning of the next song for a good ten seconds...

That market lost about 50% of its revenue between 2019 and 2020. Some of the drop is due to the recession, but other markets were not affected as severely. We have to consider that the social upheaval in the market severely affected the economy and the use of radio, and this station was one of the most badly affected. The ratings all during 2020 were in the same level relative to the rest of the market, so this was something beyond the current programming.

Looks like KQ updated their legal IDs again in the last few days. I know they've been experimenting with new ones for the last few weeks but it looks like all of them are replaced now. Still not a fan unfortunately though...

However, looks like KQ is back in the top ten when it comes to ratings! They're #7 now with 5.4, right in front of KDWB. Still saddens me to see dirt-cheap-to-operate JACK FM above them in the ratings though.

Looks like they've started using some new slogans and legal IDs. They're still the Dan Stone ones, but I think they're a step in the right direction. Also happy to hear the "classic rock became classic here" and "the legendary KQRS" slogans again. Still a far cry from the old imaging I loved, but I like them more than the ones they've been using for the last year though (with the exception of the IDs that overlap the music, those drive me crazy).

Also, if anyone from KQ is reading these, I wanted to mention that I really liked the fill-in personality that was on KQ tonight, Steve McClain. I would really like hearing him full-time (maybe instead of the awful syndicated Steve Gorman Rocks show?)

New ratings today. KQRS is still on an upwards trajectory!

The new imaging they've been using has also been a bit more bearable. I still prefer the pre-Dan Stone imaging, but it isn't bad. Just wish they'd make some of the TOTH IDs not overlap the music so much...

I think they Vinyl is slowly appearing more in rotation too. I'm going to have to listen again.

The vinyl stuff is usually used as filler, but every once in a while I do hear it in normal rotation. The only thing I like about the Steve Gorman Rocks show is that KQ's automation will use the vinyl tracks as "filler padding" at the end of ad breaks sometimes. I've heard some really good music I don't normally hear in those. Ironically I enjoy the ad breaks more than the actual show for this reason, haha.

I'd love them to just play those tracks sometime. Hell, I'd stay up until 5 AM to hear them play that stuff if I had to...

Speaking of overnights, they've found someone to permanently put on overnights starting tonight (or Monday, not sure). Graves has been temporarily filling in on overnights since Eddie left a few months ago, presumably on his own terms, but it looks like he doesn't have to anymore. I still miss Eddie, but according to the KQ personalities page it looks like it'll be Steve MacLean on overnights. As I mentioned, I actually really liked hearing him when he was filling in a couple weeks ago, so I'm looking forward to it!
