In many metros, the ability to license a decent translator if you have an HD-2 or HD-3 to translate (woned or leased) makes HD very interesting to many broadcasters.
Because Over the Air broadcasters are much more interested in other platforms than in additions to the FM platform, there is not much focus on pure-play HD channels. But there is profit in the HD + Translator formula.
"Ugly and disgusting" translates into "realists".
The formats you describe generally can not sustain the cost of operation of a station. Not "taste" but reality. What you are complaining about is no different than lamenting the decline in the number of pay phones in America.
Not knowing about a Tejano artist that had more hits in Houston than the "English speaking artist with the same name" just indicates that you are not aware of your local culture and environment and are missing great experiences.
P.S. Selena Quintanilla was primarily "English Speaking" and had to be tutored in Spanish to make her first recordings. Her family's Texas heritage is likely generations deeper than yours.
I probably was a bit over the top with the troll comment. But the amount of disrespect shown to me is inappropriate in any professional forum. Pay phone booths? Really? Is there any other way you wish to insult me today? And every other oldies, smooth jazz, classical, active rock, dance, etc. fan in the country?
Tried Tejano a couple of times, besides the frustration of not understanding a single word, the style of music grated on me. I didn't grow up with it, so I'm not used to it. Sorry.
Selena Q was smokin' hot. Not a big fan of the songs I heard, because they were soft rock. Besides KVIL in past decades, I haven't listened to soft rock in a long time. The format pretty much fizzled. But like every guy in the country, I was looking forward to seeing Selena Q in movies, TV shows, etc. Darn shame. What is it with obsessed fans? John Lennon, Selena Q, how many others have be been robbed of? Selena G is smokin' hot, thank goodness she isn't on this forum so I can freely say - I'm not a fan of her music either. I know that's horrible, and makes me a horrible friend, but its just not my preferred style. I've had to stop buying records and DVD's of people I know, it gets expensive and I never listen / watch most of it.
Nice to know the trivia about Selena Q. Maybe it will come in handy in a trivia game some day. Sorry I am lazy not to type out Quintanilla and Gomez all the time. As for my Texas heritage, 1926 on one side and 1927 on the other so you are probably right. But as far as American, Edward Bosworth on the William and Mary, the ship after the Mayflower. Six ancestors in the American Revolution. So I freely admit to being biased in an English speaking direction.
