KRBE HD2

Yesterday, their HD was off for some weird reason, now I know why. Today, they are now broadcasting an HD-2 channel with a continous techno sound that keeps repeating "KRBE HD2 Houston".
 
Someone better call jras20! He'll be estatic about the techno music.

I wouldn't call it techno "music." It's just a 60 second bed that keeps repeating.
 
If only I could get HD signals from Houston!!
 
Unfortunately, I hear it from the Car Head Unit, so recording it is impossible, unless I take out the stereo. All I can tell you is that it is just a continous beat (techno type) that repeats "KRBE HD2 Houston" every 30 seconds.

I'll keep checking if I can since I am in the fringe area of KRBE right now.
 
You must be on a hill or something where you are, I have a heck of a time pulling HD out in Lavaca county with my antenna up 20 feet in the air. Does it drop out a lot? I'm about to get a big momma antenna before to long and raise it another 20 feet!
 
Well, it is almost impossible to catch it in Aggieland. But once you drive south towards Navasota and Wellborn, the signal comes in with a lot of skips. Once past Navasota, the signal somes in clear, but the hills (driving towards Houston) make it skip a lot.

In a small town called Todd Mission (North of Magnolia), every Senior Road HD signal comes in clean. but north of that on Highway 105, you get a lot of skipping.

I was wondering if any of you know how to improve the signal on a Car Radio? I know there is not much you can do for FM, but AM gets a lot of interference from the engine.
 
I get a kick out of reading radioheads talking about HD.

NOBODY IN THE GENERAL PUBLIC CARES.

Radio companies need to focus what little financial resources they are willing to part with, on the stations PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT AND STILL LISTEN TO!!!
 
HD Radio is a great idea, if they can only fix it to where it can go as far as the analog stereo signal can go, without interfearing with other stations I think it will work out. I have better luck with Digital TV than HDRadio.
 
Thats a VO guy KRBE used from a couple of years back. Wonder why they used him.... makes me wonder whats coming to the HD2 channel...
 
Why dont the stations advertise the Hd stations that much?

You're joking right? Don't you hear all those HD radio spots that are played with the commercials. They may not be put in there by the stations (or might), but it is shure letting people know that there is a such thing as HD radio.

[/quote] Yeah but what I mean is all they say is discover hidden station with no montly fees. I never hear News 740 broadcasting in hd2. Ive heard Estereo Latino sunny 99.1 say they are broadcasting in hd. But I never hear commercials about whats on hd2 or hd3.

You're right. Except for a few stations owned by Greater Media, there is very little promotion of what's actually on the HD2 channels. The only reason I can think of for this is paranoia. Nobody wants to risk losing ANY of their cume, even to their own HD2 channels.

Radio as an industry needs to get over it. Start thinking about the future every now and then instead of just living for today. Whether we want to admit it or not, people have choices these days. The more choices we offer our listeners, the better our chances to retain them as users of radio.

Of course, they're not really choices unless listeners know they're available to them. Some smarter marketing of the HD2 and HD3 channels is definitely in order. The whole "stations between the stations" campaign is a total waste of airtime. Nobody buys a radio that lets them hear "something" new. They want to know specifically what the something new is.

Good points. The only Houston station that does an excellent job of promoting the alternate HD streams is KUHF, which actively and frequently promotes the programming on their HD2, and is now mentioning the BBC programming on the HD3.

Radio executives' current thinking on HD is somewhat like the insecure girlfriend who doesn't want you to meet her sisters for fear that you'll think they're prettier.
