The looming shake up and ownership change at KRBE must be bad. First Sam, now Michelle?
I realize that Michelle is leaving for very different reasons, but that's two heritage KRBE talents gone.

Hopefully they can hold on to Yo-J, Atom and Scott Sparks.

I would have thought KRBE was keeping the morning show they have now with Atom and Maria, but maybe they really are still looking.

Since Dom and Imus, Howard Stern (duh) and most of the other "hotshot" morning show hosts are out of the question, who could it be?

It all depends on who buys KRBE as to what is going to happen to the format. I have no idea who is seriously looking at KRBE, it is not going to sell cheap.

If there are more at KRBE that bail in the near future, expect it to be a company that is going to change formats and naturally they have a better plan than a station that has been consistant in the top five ratings for years.

Long shot, but maybe Cumulus will buy 104 and move KIOL to 104.1 and the Talk-News station to 103.7 and sell off 97.5. KFNC may actually have a chance if more than 25% of the population can hear the station. KFNC has been getting better, but the signal is killing them.

There is something in the rumor mill about KIOL 103.7 moving frequencies agian. The station has had an unusual number of calls about the next frequency KIOL will be broadcasting from.

>What would happen to the top 40 outlet in Houston if that happens? I wouldnt realy like that if they did that. If Cumulus did happen to buy out 104, they should keep it the same as it is, I kind of like KQXY out of Beaumont They even have a little bit of dance mixed into there top 40 station.

It would be interesting if Cumulus bought KRBE - could they possible make the audio on the station sound as bad as what they have done to 103.7? Perhaps instead of audio processing they are using a food processor.

Actually I was hoping I might find out something more from the people on this board. There are so many on this board on top of things and I don't have anything solid to go on that KIOL is indeed moving. I do know that Cumulus does have the financial part lined up to buy KRBE, especially since KRBE may not sell for nearly as much as originally thought. While waiting for a flight, I was glancing through the on-line trade mags on my laptop and there was a short blurb that "an unnamed company that has been trying to break into the Houston market with a local signal may be upgrading to do so in a few months." That was all that was written, but Cumulus despirately wants a Missouri City stick for KIOL. The signal on 103.7 has been less than the success Cumulus hoped it would be. If Cumulus buys KRBE they can move KFNC to 103.7 and there is a chance that KFNC may make it if they continue to improve, and more than 25% of Houston can hear the station. KFNC has been getting better and while 103.7 won't give Cumulus full Houston coverage, it will beat the hell out of 97.5, which Cumulus can sell to the next company that will make the signal work.

If it is not Cumulus, the only other company I can think of is Radio One, and I think that they are happy with the stations the own now. I'm sure thar R O is not happy about the performance of La Mera Mera, but the choice to stick with the format is R O's.
