KRBE to flip?

Uhmm. This morning, any idea why my RDS - when on KRBE, said "MOVIN 104.1"?

I'd be shocked if they did anything drastic of a flip. They've already made it into a MIX 96.5. I think everyone would be ticked if 103.7 moved to a stronger signal and didn't tweak their playlist.

It's amusing to me how I saw "MOVIN 104.1" on my radio this morning, and people are talking about a move of Rock 103.7 to 104.1.

Not realistic, and not on topic.

You Lose. Try Again.

It was an attempt at humor - as in, what could clueless Cumulus do to completely screw up all three of their Houston area properties. Perhaps you would have been more impressed with simulcasting ESPN 97.5 on all three stations.

The Movin' 104.1 thing is curious, though.

Wow, KRBE was one of the top, top 40 stations around and it has come to a possible flip? That would be crazy, no top 40 station in analog for Houston? Wow I guess I may just keep my antenna going to Victoria. ???

Crumulus strikes another one dead??? Seems like this was planned the first day they walked into the building.
It took a little longer than I expected, though. Sorry to see another one bite the dust.

You have got to be kidding me. If KRBE flips to Movin', we all revolt. I hope this is a joke.

Apparently, KRBE's Top-40 format is safe-for the time being. I think people out there realize that It might want to use the Movin' format on their HD-2 channel. A lot of people know that HD radios are getting expensive, but it could become a whole lot cheaper down the line. If KRBE flips, then its listeners will be scrambling to find a good Top-40 station. It might be K-Hits or KKHT. We shall see...

KRBE is a cash cow. There's zero chance of it flipping.

RDS breaks messages up into smaller segments. If you were playing the song "Keep On Movin" it would display on people's radios like this: KEEP ON | MOVIN 104 | KRBE. You can only fit so much text on the display at one time so the | marks represent the breaks where the display changes.

RDS encoders get their input from the station's automation system. Most of them don't display alternate text when you go to a talk break or play something from another source, like a CD player, so it's entirely possible that KRBE's may have been stuck on "MOVIN 104" for a while.

I know of one station's encoder that got stuck displaying an artist name for a whole week.

I was wondering if KRBE flips to Movin' 104.1, are there ANY chance that KKHT or KHTC might pick up the Top 40 format? I'm just guessing...

KRBE is the #4 station 12+ in Houston. It ain't flippin' to nuttin'.

I think you're right, Dave. KRBE is'nt going anywhere. Its target audience: The Kids in School. The first thing kids want to hear after school is 104. Its also their parents' favorite station, and they've been playing the hits since 9/11/1958. If it broke, don't fix it. It's all about chemistry.

KKHT?? The religious station on 100.7? Why would they do that? Do you mean KTHT 97.1? The format would be dead in the water at 97.1 on that signal, it doesn't cover all of Houston.
It's already been tried there, remember Hot 97-1? I don't think Cox would be willing to try it again on the same frequency. It might at 92.9. I'd love to see that happen.

KRBE wasn't top 40 when they signed on in 1958. It was classical until the 60's. You might want to read that wikipedia story again, Troy. :p

You people are NUTS. The PPM data just came out today for Houston and you guys are talking about THIS garbage?

KRBE is Top 5 cume in the market. It's safe as kittens. Go back to work.

Yeah, but even Cumulus isn't that dumb. most of their screw ups have involved rimshot stations that are having ratings troubles. The stations that are making money for them, they don't seem to fool with much. They are not changing KRBE's format from CHR.
