Just read that KRBL has been sold. Could this mean that the classic country format will be making an exit?

UPDATE: KRBL Lubbock sold

Sold? To whom?

Thoughts?
I did some digging. The new company is "Claro Communications, LTD." Don't bother looking for a company website. The new owners are not much better organized. From what I can find, they own two other statoins in Texas, Fox Sports 1070 http://www.myspace.com/foxsportsradio1070am (Yeah, a myspace page.. Really!), and KOPY FM 92.1, a Tejano station: http://www.alicecoyote.com/kopy/ . I hope they don't make 105.7 Tejano, we have enough Tejano music here already, imo.

I believe a branch of Claro Communications also owns several other stations, like KBRN 1500 in Boerne, which is a Spanish religion station.

For some reason, it wouldn't surprise me if they changed it to Tejano. What else would they do with a station that has such a poor signal? ???

It will be a Disco format.

I hope you're not joking, we could use some dance music around here.
My fear is that it that they'll do the same thing that 103.5 did, start out as a classic dance station just so they can go Spanish later :(
Sorry, we don't need another Spanish format station here, there are enough clogging the airwaves of West Texas.

They also own 1510 KROB Robstown, 500 watts Daytime operating 24/7, License be damned and KMZZ 106.9 Bishop. Also KUKA San Diego, TX. KMZZ in Corpus Christi on 104.1 on K281AV and KUKA on translator K232DE - 94.3.

It's some permutation of the Benavides family who also owns B communications joint ventures and some LPTVs.

Sorry, but Claro will likely launch something in spanish.

Judging by the other stations in their portfolio, my guess is they keep 105.7 the same as it is, running off a network feed. It's nothing to see here folks, just move it right along...

Ok,
But what's missing from this is what will happen at 105.7?

I have NO interest in the canned "True Country" format that KRBL played that is moving to 105.3, and if I want country, I just turn over to The Bear or good ol' K3L.

That said, I can completely understand what my good friend Dave Walker means by 'disconnect.' The network version of JACK, I'm sorry to say, just wasn't right for Lubbock. The syndicated version was playing too much of what sounded like Adult Alternative, with a few Disco songs occasionally sprinkled in, and not enough of them. With Rock 101 and Kool 98, the station just didn't make sense in addition to the fact that it was pretty DULL. Also there was no local imaging, and after a while, the Howard Cogan liners just became boring because there was nothing else. It was nothing more than listening in on a CD player on shuffle. Nobody needs a radio station to do that.

We probably haven't seen the last of JACK FM in Lubbock. GAP has the Jack format both in Amarillo and Midland. So, whatever FM station that GAP has here that is under-performing? Well, be afraid, be very afraid! I also wouldn't be surpised to see JACK show up on one of the 3 other CHRs in Lubbock.

It will be interesting to see what happens to 105.7.

wouldnt spend too much time on the whole "Jack" thing... if there's to be a format change on one of the FM's it won't be Jack... they underperform and are pretty close to being yanked where they are... Why not continue to split numbers with the current formats instead of taking a chance on a losing proposition.

instead of splitting numbers with the 6 hispanic stations, and the 4 country stations and the 5 who are battling it out for the small piece of the 18-34's, why doesn't someone so something DIFFERENT, and fill a glaring formatic hole in the market instead of giving us duplication.
