KRDJ

What is the scoop on KRDJ? They have a mainstream Rock format backed by a giant signal blanketing Baton Rouge and Lafayette. . . .so why no descent ratings? Is the problem with their music selection, the jocks or . . . ??

Perhaps the history of format flip flop itus...Feel free to fill in where I've missed. Oldies, Rock, DIVA, Rock, Classic Crap...............and that's just since 2005.........

They never did DIVA

they were Rock, Then Red (Variety Hits), bombed and was moved from Baton Rouge to Lafayette Cluster swapped to Classic rock and now mainstream active from what I can tell and that is what it's been since 2005 (as callsign was swapped to current KRDJ on April,2005)

KRDJ is my favorite station in the Acadiana area...

It's nice to hear active rock on the radio. Reminds me of 2 other stations I enjoy listening to: TK 101 (WTKX-Pensacola) and 99.5 KISS FM (San Antonio).

All that and a poopy head of a GM that let would let a 100,000 watt station go to waste no matter what format it had on the stick. Perhaps that is part of the reason why that person is no longer in place. Not the only reason but maybe like 5 to 10% of the reason. You are expected to hit a budget number with X number of stations and you ignore 3 of the 5 in your possession. It is kinda like fishing...if you put out 5 poles and only put bait on two of them, how many fish do you think you will catch on the poles with no bait? Sure there will be a few really hungry fish that will bite but only because they swam right into the damn hook. YOu need to put the bait on the hook and advertise and let the fish you are trying to catch know that there is definitely bait they want to eat, on the hook. How does a new eatery succeed? Good food and service. How do you let people know that you have what they are craving? Advertisement and word of mouth. I think KRDJ has gotten as far as it can on word of mouth. Next step is advertisement. Will Citadel spend money on it? Who knows. If not what format? Country? No there are at least 6 flavors of country in the Lafayette Market? Urban? Nope. Top 40? Nope. Maybe they can do 93.7 The Big Chill...Eskimo favorites of the 80's, 90's and Today! Nanuk ya'll!

I hope that makes sense but it is late and the stupid weed trimmer I bought today doesn't work and I am pissed. Please forgive my bad analogy.

Bad management, bad product, limited marketing. The station, like Citadel itself, is conflicted. Is it an Acadiana station? A Baton Rouge station? Classic Rock? Active Rock? Red? Acadiana's Rock? Lafayette's Rock? How many slogans can you have before you settle on one?

Big, wasted signal.

KRDJ is Lafayette's Rock station. It has been since last July when the new GM took over. The new GM is a rock guy. Formatically the station is top notch. The talent needs and will get an upgrade. It is now doing more promotions, on and off the air than ever before. The ratings problem has been more of an Arbitron issue than programming issue. Men 18-34 disappeared in the Fall Book. Rock shares fell 25.7-5.9 with M 18-24 and Rock 93.7 garnering a 0 share in that demo. R U buying that? I am not.

Planet's move down the dial to less power will only help Rock 93.7.

Ratings problems are ALWAYS Arbitron issues. They are NEVER Programming issues.

On their web site they use both "Lafayette's Rock Station" and "Acadiana's Rock - Rock 93.7".

I thought Chuck Wood was a CHR guy? At least he was when he was GM at KSMB.

If Citadel had plans for KRDJ, it wouldn't be in a Trust. Planet's signal at 105.1 is still big enough for Acadiana. Their move means nothing because Citadel won't spend any money on a signal that's in a Trust.

How can you say "Formatically the station is top notch?" Because they have some quality produced sweepers? There's more to a Format than that. How about music rotation? Relevant talk breaks? How can the Format be top notch when you admit the talent needs help and will be upgraded?

The Morning Show is terrible. The Afternoon guy couldn't get a job in radio anywhere else. The Night Girl sounds like she's VT'd and we know Ginty is in New Orleans. The entire on-air sound and web site needs to be tossed and started over.

I don't think the station will ever get the attention it deserves since its a 'trust' station that's waiting to be sold, theoretically. I think they will show up higher in the ratings this book. Musically, they are decent sounding active rock station.Perhaps they could jump on the currents a little faster. And yes they could have better jocks, but I'm glad they have some on air presence as apposed to running as a jock-less jukebox like they did for a while after shifting to active rock..
