KRDX 98.5 The Fox - Oldies?

It seems as if KRDX 98.5 "The Fox" is positioned to go head to head with CC AM?

I hear a voice on the air, but can not hear the name. They sound like a FM version of Kool, and with the sound quality of KHIT. Will they attract advertising? Whats their total song inventory going to be? 1,000 songs? ???

Kind of sounds like the oldies station in Sierra Vista on 101.7 FM ;D

What a shame. I used to listen to KRDX Was thrilled about it and was telling everyone I knew about this GREAT new station. Now it's just a pop hits same old, same old song station. I'm done Ted, you had a brilliant thing going and would have had a huge following if you had stuck with it. I was surprising myself and even turning off the TV at night to dial in KRDX on my vintage G9000 Sansui receiver back in the man cave up here in Oro Valley. Was pulling it in with my roof antenna real well.

Not any more though. The Fox and their playlist of hits sucks. Burned out on that crap...Thanks Ted. Gezzzzzz

KRDX is now using the very same satellite service that KKYZ in Sierra Vista uses. But KKYZ is just over one minute behind KRDX. All programming comes from Waitt Radio of Omaha.

KRDX currently has a construction permit to move to 103.7. Awhile back they were set to go to 104.5. The move will get them away from Hot 98.3. Once that happens KRDX will be placed in the hands of Frank Kalil who will sell the station to new owners, making more millions for the Tuckers. The new owners will be interested in operating revenues and the programming will change dramatically. The only questions are how many more frequency swaps and when they will be completed.

Megadittoes to the above....

Yep, it sure was nice while it lasted, but Tucson radio sucks again. Too bad...

Kind of ironic that this canned overplayed oldies format that has taken over KRDX is billed as "The Fox".
Prior to KRDX popping on the air intermittently two years ago, the last really good Tucson FMer was Rich Robbins' short-lived "K-Fox" from the late '80s...
...although I will give Lotus credit for trying with both KEKO "The Echo" in the '90s and with KCMT earlier this decade. Neither lasted too long, though, with Echo becoming KFMA and KCMT going Espanol after only about a year or so.

I liked KCMT for as long as it lasted. There were a couple of jocks that actually liked and knew something about the music they played. More than once I believe they pulled something out of their own collections when I asked for it, or we'd be talking about something kinda "radio obscure" and I'd noticed it snuck in a day or two later. That was pretty cool...

What format was 98.5 before they put Oldies on there?

The station actually sounds good. Listened all this weekend. They sound more involved now with the jocks doing mini breaks talking about local events. Best part... 100% commercial free!

See the recent thread "98.5 KRDX on air full time now?"
Examples of some of the sorely underplayed musical gems that they unearthed are on there. Basically, it was the same format as KCDX Florence/Phoenix (no surprise, since same owner). Similar to a satellite radio "Deep Tracks" format.
As far as the canned oldies format now on the frequency, it is better than most oldies stations, although that is damning with faint praise. That the frequency has remained commercial-free (for now) is certainly a plus, but way to much of what is played is stuff I've certainly heard more than enough in my lifetime.
That said, I'll give them props for unearthing an underplayed gem now and again. Examples I've heard since the switch: "Things I'd Like to Say", New Colony Six (1969); "Early In the Morning", Vanity Fare (1970).
Era boundaries seem to be 1985 on the top end (which means, thankfully, no "Kokomo"!), and '64 on the other end, although they will slip in an occasional pre-Brit Invasion tune (I heard "Tossin' and Turnin'" last night).
Just waiting for the next switch once the frequency is sold...
