Kristen Welker on "Today"

Former NBC10 weekend anchor Kristen Welker did a live report on the wildfires out west this morning on the TODAY show. Does anyone know to which station she is assigned now, or is she a general assignment reporter? I always liked her work in Philly.

According to coverage in the Philly newspapers, Welker is on summer loan to NBC's west coast bureau. She's supposed to return to NBC 10 in the fall. But if she does a great job out west, who knows ...

Wow, first, NBC 10 sharing their traffic helicopter with WJAR/"NBC 10" in Providence, and now this!

Well, I guess that is doable since WJAR is the only former NBC O&O-presently Media General owned NBC affiliate that didn't change their official station logo. Their only modification is over-the-air where the peacock is now partially inside the "square 10".

Where did you hear that?

Yes, they used to borrow WCAU-TV's helicopter, which was a great deal for them because they have an identical logo to Philly's NBC-10, so it looked like it was actually their helicopter. It made for a very impressive illusion...

I thought I heard at a Broadcast Pioneers luncheon that NBC-10 would be ending their "Chopper 10" duties, effective at either the end of April or May. The chopper photographer from NBC-10 told the audience that Chopper 3 would be providing video for 3, 10, and 29 now as part of the LNS agreement. The photog said he would probably be out of work because of this. Previously, I think Chopper 10 provided video for 29 for a while because Fox-29 either ended their lease or sold "Sky Fox." So, channel 6 is the only station with a chopper to themselves, but for all I know, they may even use it as part of an agreement with WFMZ 69 because I believe that station functions as their "Lehigh Valley" bureau.
