KRIV Adds Extra Hour to Morning Newscast

What does that make theirs now, *5 hours* a day?!?

No, that makes SIX hours of morning news, 4-10am.

Place your bets on how long it will be before the competition moves up their start times by 30 minutes.

With long commute times (or just beating the traffic) there are more people up at those early hours than you might think.

How about the big 3 saying "the hell with it" and starting at 3:30 instead?? But how about channel 39 getting into the morning news game, like their sister stations in NY and LA?

I can't see that but i can see the afternoon rush hour expanding later and later. I can still see bad traffic even around 8pm now.

Fox in Dallas is also expanding. They're starting at 4:30 starting Monday. They'll be the first at 4:30 in this market.

I'd be curious to know what the numbers are like in Houston for news that early.

So is Melissa Wilson now on the morning news? I noticed a new lady during the 5 and 5:30 newscast, and i think she's on at 9 too. What's going on?

Melissa moved to mornings when they added the extra hour. Now she's the female presence for 3 hours of the morning news, and Sibila Vargas does the other 3 hours. Melinda Spaulding, who was the 5 p.m. co-anchor, now does the 9 as well -- both with Mike Barajas.

Makes sense. Now what's the delay with a "Good Day Houston" type of newscast?? I've always thought of that for years.

Good point ... most other Fox O&Os title at least part of their a.m. news block as "Good Day" -- including KTBC in Austin and KDFW in Dallas.
