KRKO Receives approval FINALLY .. to Build 4 New Towers

(courtesy Everett Heraldnet)"Four high-powered towers for KRKO radio (1380 AM) have been approved by the Snohomish County Council for the Snohomish River flood plain. The council approved a permit for the towers by a 4-1 vote Monday evening, ending nearly six years of study, debate and appeals over the towers."This clears the way for AM1380 to increase power to 50,000 watts.

Seeing this news item and the fact that it was a fantastic sunny day .... prompted me to drive up there today and see if the old KRKO building is still up there on Lowell/Latimer rd. Am pretty sure the one I was is the same one that used to house the station ... but it's being used by another firm these days (station operations now downtown, of course). KRKO has added a whole history page to their web site ... pretty cool that they've been able to hang in there and survive all these challenges, etc. over the years.

The KRKO crew (Andy Skotdal in particular) is to be congratulated for their TENACTIY! Most would have abandon their efforts long ago and saved the money. Now the real challenge. How to make AM (even wtih 50KW, at 1380 this is not a blowtorch) pay back the investment. Pat Cashman is a damn good start.
