KRKO RFI complaints

Seriously?? A truck window?? I can see a garage door or a wireless ceiling fan, but a non-rf item like a car window? Not sure how realistic that is. Someone prove me wrong!

Telephone RFI is standard fare, especially for start-up 50KW. Car window, garage door...those are off the charts not possible. Frequency of those types of wireless devices are many MHZ higher than standard bdcst freq. But it makes for good TV and I'm sure the NIMBYS are networking like crazy to find any kind of complaint. Next come the migraines, swollen prostates and tower/bird strikes...FCC requires a documented response to RFI complaints during launch of new RF facility.

ESPECIALLY challenging when it's a hand-crank window.

LOL!

I had a TV site that put out enough RF to keep a new (computer controlled truck) from turning off it's cabin fan if you parked at the right spot near the tower...

I have also seen transmitters kill snow mobiles. Most of my experience is with FM but all rf will create currents in wiring and digital gear can be pretty sensitive if not properly shielded.

I drive by KIXI (50 KW/10KW) and KKNW (10KW/6KW) all the time...

My window never rolls down! :D

Once upon a time, car window and garage door would have been impossible..but with these devices now having the switch closure input to high-impedance
solid-state CMOS-type devices, it's NOT off the chart impossible. Any solid-state device these days has a multitude of P/N junctions which are only too happy to become unintended rectifiers of RF picked up by unshielded wiring. Even with the intended receiver circuitry at 900 or so Mhz.
These folks are in the near field and should get 2 free handfuls of clip-on ferrite beads and help installing them.
I'll reject the migranes, etc.

Speaking of KRKO, how's reception in YOUR area?

KRKO at 50,000 watts comes in NO better northward (Mount Vernon, Bellingham) than they did at 5,000 watts....

I was driving North on I-5 last Friday and South again on Sunday from/to Boeing Field. When just passing the convention center downtown I tried to tune in KRKO but just heard noise. I made another attempt around Lynwood and heard KRKO, but the signal was not of very good quality again due to electrical noise over the audio.

Perhaps KRKO reduced power while they sort out interference issues, but it they're indeed operating at 35kW day then I'm for one am not impressed.

Didn't one of the engineer-types on this board a while back predict KRKO wouldn't play as anticipated?

I remember reading something like that too.....

I'll be heading to Seattle tomorrow. I'm curious to hear how KRKO comes in down there.....

It's not a flamethrower but it's better along the I-90 Issaquah to Seattle corridor than it's 5kw days.

They are listenable in Seattle as long as you're away from trolley wires.

KRKO could always engage First Media so First can convince Metro they have to move all the trolley lines? I hear those guys can accomplish ANYTHING. (and besides, a case can be made to the FCC that it would be in "Gold Bar's best interest").
