KRLA Sued for being "Too Conservative"

Did someone forget to lock the asylum doors?

This is a joke that will be laughed out of court.

I really like the part about calls from Democrats getting screened and not aired ...

I'm not so sure that this guy won't get a hearing. This is likely a first shot across the bow in the coming attempts to reenact the fairness doctrine. Another interesting point is the claim that free advertising is being provided to conservative causes. Something that intrigues me, a lot, is how they come up with a new and controversial campaign commercials and they get it played to death, at no charge, on all of the talk shows. The other fascinating claim is that all of the politicians and their partisans claim the media is biased toward the other side. How can the media owners all be biased two ways, it just can't be. Either they all lean one way, or the other, or some lean one way and others the opposite direction.

The truth is, at least to me, that as a person who has the time now that I’m partially retired to really listen to talk radio. And being here in LA and having internet access I have the opportunity to hear all of the flavors out there. What I’m seeing is that the majority of the interesting talk shows are for whatever reason hosted by conservatives or at least those who espouse the conservative view. Only a few shows are hosted by compelling progressives, notably Stephanie Miller and Ed Schultz on the national level and Michael Jackson locally.

Now the argument could be made that the liberals don’t get the fair share air time, but I think that if anybody has a compelling point of view and an interesting way to present it that they would get the chance. Broadcasting is a business and ratings are how they gauge their performance so it you are getting the ears you’ll get the microphone. If you don’t then there is always internet radio and PBS.

I'm glad that lawsuit wasn't filed in the Bay Area. If it had been, O'Reilly and all the other conservative commentators would have a field day talking about the out of control politically correct nuts and hypocrites in San Francisco.

Oddly enough, we do have one all conservative talk station here (KSFO), one primarily conservative talk station (KNEW), and Michael Savage originates from here.

this amounts to a lawyer's annuity.
sue Oprah....Obama and nobody else.
even if it's without merit, don't you think
her lawyers
would pay
$800K
to make it
go away?
(is that rap or haiku?)

That radio station isn't going anywhere, and neither is this lawsuit.

Good luck trying to enforce that Democat-sponsored piece of insanity known as the 'Fairness Doctrine', if it does become law.

the man has my sympathy for the bravery tho...opinion, left or right, is hard to measure. he will have a tough time getting them to take him seriously!

People who want the Fairness Doctrine better be careful what they wish for, unless it will ONLY apply to radio. Every network, along with CNN, would have to start giving equal time to conservatives, and that would totally destroy what they currently have.

Years from now, we'll all be able to sit back and laugh about this. Or maybe months. Or weeks. Or days. Or whenever.

Interesting that Laura Ingraham was named in the brief, even though she won't be there on Monday morning.

The last poster brought up a point I was about to get to: KTLK. Now, to me, this lawsuit is very interesting. If this gentleman gets his wish, and gets a hearing, then what are the implications? Can we sue KABC for the same reason? Should a conservative now be able to sue KTLK, because, hay, their point of view isn't being represented on the station? This really does open up a very good discussion, and possibly, a big can of worms for talk stations.

Now, I don't agree with bringing back the fairness doctrin. However, I can see this gentleman's point. Where I live, in upstate New York, there is no liberal voice on the radio. We just have one conservative talk station. I see where, in most of the country, the liberal point of view is underrepresented.

So, what next: Well, let's just watch and see what becomes of this lawsuit.

WHAT????? You've GOT to be kidding! This is a MAJOR waste of time! Radio is a BUSINESS, people! Why do you think that "left-wing radio" doesn't take hold of the radio audience the way that "right-wing radio" does??? And remember this, there are ways to present the "other side" on radio if you are creative enough! Bottom line has always been, and will always be this:

"you don't have to listen to a program if you are not happy with the content!" CHANGE THE STATION!!!!

It's called FREEDOM, folks! Be very happy that you live a country that allows it!!
