KRLD 80TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY TOMORROW NIGHT (TUES)

At the Lakewood Theater. You have to pre-register, but it's free.

Brad Sham, Jim Sundberg, Eddie Barker and lots of other notables are gonna be there. And if that weren't enough, Lars Larson! Who could ask for anything more?

Congrats to KRLD-AM for 80 years of service to Dallas/Fort Worth. :)

Thanks for the fantastic link! The recent passing of Warren Fulks made me realize once again that most of the true talents are gone. Yes indeed, congratulations to KRLD for 80 years. But I only wish I could be excited about what lies ahead for 1080.

You remind me of an "old thinking" fart wishing for better days when the "Talent" was better. Oh puuulease! Yes there was good talent back then and there is good talent TODAY.

TRUE talent is highly subjective.

You're right. It is subjective, but out of necessity there was a bigger talent pool back then. Unfortunately the tradition of excellence has a hard time surviving in today's business climate. Like many other stations now, KRLD has a number of very good people, some old and some new, but their creativity is often stifled. Where are the mentors?

Do I long for the "better days?" Not really, because in many ways they weren't really that good. What I miss is the spontaneity, accountability and radio that truly related to the audience. For the most part, that's something that changed a few short years ago.

You misread me. It's still interesting to me when a new format comes along or some fresh new talent appears. I can still find can find compelling radio today. I just have to look a little harder.

As I was viewing the photos from the Archive link... I am reminded of an old Camera Man from KRLD TV/KDFW days... his name was Gene Paszalek-- he had two children-- one was Kevin who has since become a minister in Houston, Texas the other was a daughter Mary Anne-- the only reason I bring that up, is the fact that in high school, I dated Mary Anne, and met her dad, his claim to fame was he was chosen by CBS to be the camera man on the 18th Green at the Masters, and was the 50 Yard Line Camera in the Cotton Bowl for both the Cotton Bowl Classic and the Dallas Cowboys Games...

When I was in high school, I was studying TV Production (as it was called in the 70s) at Skyline High School... I know Gene passed away I believe in 1992.....

Just a thought!

Good points you make my friend. You are right, the talent pool was larger back in the day. I think the problem today is the lack of leadership and vision by managers. Plus you have the same stale CONsultants bringing in people who have no reason to be on air or programming a 50KW blowtorch in the 5th largest market.

Conventional wisdom says it's the stock holders/investors screwing up radio. I say it's the lack of competent GM's. Too many bean counters.

GUESS WHO WON THE $1080.00? that night?...drum roll...MIKE SHANNON!! Congrats Mike...when's dinner?
