KRLD and the Coyote

Some time ago, someone mentioned the Wolfman Jack sound-a-like from the 70s, the Coyote.

I know he was on KLIF, but he also had an all-night show on KRLD in the early '70s when I was in college. Did his own news in his regular voice using the name Lee Michaels.

During the day, I believe the station was MOR/easy listening.

His show ran from 11 p.m. or midnight to 5 a.m. At 5, KRLD ran a political program, "Lifeline", paid for by oilman H.L. Hunt. It was strange to say the least. The program mixed right-wing politics and Christianity.

Some still believe Hunt may have been a part of the Kennedy assassination.

Anyway, does anyone remember the Coyote on KRLD?

The Coyote was none other than the beautiful and talented Dick Seigel on KLIF 1190.

The Coyote was really a guy named Lee Poole. Carried out a pretty good impersonation of Wolfman Jack. What was interesting about his show from 12am until 5am on KLIF in the early 19-70's was that at the top of each hour he did his own newscast and used his normal voice...closing it out with "Lee Poole...KLIF News". Lee is retired now, in his 60's,and leaving in the Phoenix area.

Never heard The Coyote on KLIF.

But The Coyote did not sound anything like Dick Siegel on KRLD especially during the news.

By the way, when reading the news on KRLD, The Coyote used the name Lee Michaels.

As in "Do You Know What I Mean"?

Seigel said he was the Coyote on the weekends on KLIF, not KRLD. I'll tell him of your skeptisicm.

Actually, I'm not doubting you.

Again, I never heard The Coyote on KLIF -- weekends or otherwise.

As far as I know, Siegel could have been on KLIF.

When he was on KRLD, The Coyote was on during weekday overnights. And The Coyote on KRLD did not sound anything like Dick Siegel.

Also The Coyote on KRLD did not play top 40 or rock. He played almost strictly blues.

Too bad he still ain't playin' them ol' blues.
Seigel said that Gordon McClendon wanted someone like the Wolfman and he did it on the weekends. I'll ask him about it the next time I talk to him.
Now if we could only get Ol' Jim Lowe from behind the green door and back to playing the good stuff, again!

Say hi to Seigel from a member of his audience

Next time you talk to Seigel, tell him hi from another member of
the large listening audience that still remembers him - and even
recalls a Christmas he spent 'spinin records' at WBAP so everyone
else could go home (I think he said he was Jewish)!
