KRLD lagging behind WBAP in Wednesday night storms

WBAP has been wall-to-wall for at least :45 minutes following a tornado warning in Parker Co. KRLD is dipping in and out of the Rangers game.
 
HERE'S THE LATEST: Gavin and Tyler are playing Quarters over at Joe T's right now...the winner each time gets to make one call to their board op to ok some more weather coverage. At WBAP, Randy's already been called in to fake a few EAS warnings and to misreport the times on purpose, just to have something for us to talk about on Radio-Info. At KRLD, Brad Barton's already got his special crew of fake weather watchers to phone in sensationalized reports to BOTH stations so each will have something to offer (that was the result of 3 ties in the quarters game.)

There's also a blogging contest that allows a liberal a chance to block out Mark Levin's show for up to 3 mins with a weather warning. "Petraeus" is the trigger word this evening. So far, the contest has raised $26 million tonight, with proceeds going to reinvigorate John Edwards' campaign.

Gotta run...just heard the EAS tone on WBAP...Tyler musta won another round...

BTW, does KSKY ever run any weather warnings or local coverage? Why are they off the hook?
 
Meanwhile over at the Ticket... Everyone's praying their last tower remains standing tonight.

I'll give WBAP credit, they got on the ball last evening and ran with it. KRLD dropped it by not going full weather and ran the ball game.
 
How pathetic is this? We're debating which station did the least worst job covering local severe weather??? Has it really come to this?

It ALWAYS comes to this. It's completely normal to see it happen.

It's probably just an EAS test. You can safely ignore it! ;)

Nope, not at 9:15 it wasn't. It was an actual alert... It was a snow blizzard warning. At 9:20, there was an alert for an upcoming EAS test. When the test came, we heard "HELP!!!! It's an emergency! An emergency! Run for your lives!!! Women and children first!"

Personally, I long to hear, "This is a test of the Emergency Broadcast System. The broadcasters of your area in voluntary cooperation with Federal, State and local authorities have developed this system to keep you informed in the event of an emergency. If this had been an actual emergency, you would have been instructed where to tune in your area for official information, news or instructions. This station serves the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This concludes this test of the Emergency Broadcast System."

Now for the oldtimers...what was the warning statement given during CONELRAD tests? Or was there testing done over commercial/terrestrial stations?

Oh, ok, well, I CAN tell you that CONELRAD broadcasted over 640 and 1240AM...and if you've got an old radio laying around from the 50s or 60s, most have the "CD" (Civil Defense) logo with the triangle shown on the dial at those dial positions!

You guys remember when jock Ken Baker (Bateman) of KZEW got in hot water with his PD when he interrupted a song to give a tornado warning in 1989?
 
He may have lost his job. He earned my respect that day. Telling the GM to 'jam it' after he got bitched out FOR running a Tornado Warning alert. If I recall it was the belief of the Manager that there were no KZEW listeners in Grapevine where the tornado was spotted.

He could have been right. By that time, NOBODY was listening to KZEW anywhere.

I'd like to know what ol' Ken is up to. Hopefully he is still with us.

Right or wrong, if the Zoo's signal coverage included Grapevine, that GM should have known better. Ken was doing his job and he should have been commended for it by his boss.

What does it take to please you guys? I deliberately A-B'd WBAP and KRLD last night because of the weather coverage debate here at R-I.

820 blew out all talk shows to cover the storms last night. WFAA meteorologist Steve McCauley was on with news anchor Bob Crowley for hours. WBAP had three reporters out chasing the storms and damage. Jim Ryan, Elle Hogue and Lance Liggess were out reporting. Jim Ryan nearly had has car blown off the road by the storm outside of Lipan.

KRLD had Brad Barton doing the break-ins for EAS information and then kept going back to the Rangers game.

Combine this with last week when 820 pre-empted most of a Stars play-off game to cover storms and I think Mr. Cox and company are stepping things up.
