KRLD: Listen & we'll pay you

KRLD resorting to "Caller 10 wins cash when you hear the sounder". Will this work on a news station? And are we eligible to win???

Of course it will work on a news station. Why wouldn't it? No different than "Win a cruise" from any other station. News and news/talk stations have contested for a long time.

No, not hardly. KGO in SF gives away lots of stuff both on air, on the website and via their email "club." They do it a lot from concerts, to trips to other things. They are #1 on the planet, but not doing so well with the younger or 25-54s. Other stations in the format do giveaways, dinners, car care, hotel stays, etc. Not uncommon in the format.

Gotta give them credit for trying to give folks an incentive to listen. That's something that has been lacking from radio for quite some time.

Well, in this day and age, to think that people are going to tune in to news radio strictly for news is a fallacy. Personally, the only reason I tune in is if there's severe weather in the area, and then the interference from the lightning makes it tough to listen.

I suppose if there were incentive for me to listen to radio more often, I'd probably do it. But for the most part, my MP3 player keeps me company on the road.

Didn't one of the news operations have some sort of a contest where if the forcast temperature is off by "x" amount, the first caller to acknowledge it wins?

That was KRLD and Brad Barton a few years ago.
