KRLD moving this weekend

Saw a note on Radio Daily News that KRLD is making the big move from the Ballpark over to Fitzhugh this weekend. Someone told me that they're taking one entire floor over there, which will surely make their studios bigger than what they had at the Ballpark...and much cheaper for rent. (And why would they need more than a closet and a couple of desks, anyway??? Syndicated shows, a half-assed, bare-bones news dept that USED to be set up for an all-news station, and maybe a podium and a mike for Brad Barton. I know of a mini-storage building that could house the whole damn thing.)

So who takes the studios at the Ballpark now? Perhaps The Ticket, who is likely to be the flagship of the Rangers next year, or maybe the Spanish station (1270?) that carries the Ranger games? Either way, I expect someone to be on a very tall ladder at the Ballpark next week, spackling over the KRLD call letters which are engraved in stone over the outside entrance of the studios.

Strike up yet another dumb Infinity decision to 'protecting shareholder value.' Maybe they should tie Kurt, Brian, David and the gang's bonus checks to RATINGS, instead of to stock performance.

Re: KRLD

The ads for a morning interlocutor and a mid-day talk show host are no longer posted on the Infinity or TAB websites. Did they give up on finding someone who has "Bigby" talent on a "Bobo" salary? Is Brad the morning host for good? Is Ben Dover going to stay on as a non-consumer talk show host? And the move- what a chingaria. Imherelistening now has a 60 mile commute each way, through the worst traffic in the Metroplex. Where will everyone park? How long til their cars are broken into? Who would want that expensive studio space at the Ballpark, I mean Ameriquest Field? Is that enough questions?

"Grant", You'd be making the commute, worrying about your car being broken into and all the rest if you hadn't been fired from KRLD for selling company property back to the company. Don't worry, it'll all work out.

Re: KRLD

No offense to our Latino American communities but I sincerely hope that a Spanish station doesn't move into their old studios at the Temple. They play baseball there, not soccer.

Re: KRLD

It may be a long time before the KRLD space at the ballpark is filled. Why would anyone want to listen to the rangers on radio when 161 games of the season are shown on T-V? It's an albatross that hangs around the necks of many major metropolitan radio stations these days, not good business. I don't see The Ticket picking up the package, they have a very weak nighttime signal and no distribution system. Good luck to KRLD in the new location.Should be the talk of the Infinity cluster at Fitzhugh with the new stadios.

Snipe! I thought you were my friend! You're allegation is bogus, and you know it. Just think, though. If they would do that to me, what will they do to you when you are no longer needed? Enjoy your commute.

Baseball is a sport that's virtually perfect for radio. In addition, many people are out driving or doing other things while baseball is on (7:05 first pitch local time has now seemingly morphed into "drive to every retail outlet in the metro area" time), so radio is their only option. There's also that radio is more portable, and streaming radio is cheaper--both from a bandwidth cost to the originator and a subscription cost to the listener--than television.

Re: KRLD

I'm not taking the time to comment on everything that has been brought up in this thread, because I have no clue. What I can say is the new studios are tight. Everything is shiny and new for both KRLD and TSN.

Yeah, maybe the furniture and the floors and the walls, but the programming? The people? The approach? Like Ernest used to say in the old Braums's commercial, "It's like putting lipstick on a corpse." Infinity should have returned them to 1080 Metromedia Place and put up the For Sale sign.
