If I know CBS they may go to giving the task to someone at channel 11. I noticed that they are doing the same thing with KYW and WPHT where they have farmed out the weather to the staff chief meteorologist at KYW-TV in Philadelphia

It is true about Brad having received a full degree in Meteorology... I seem to remember it happened around 1992,about the time the big hurricane struck Florida and damaged Homestead AFB.

And I visited KRLD at the Ballpark and saw Brad's Diploma on the wall of his office. His middle name is on his diploma, it's a really a cool name and begins with the letter "E".

Krista Villareal is still there.

She "tweets" as @KRLDkrista and tweeted throughout the storms this evening.
She is also listed on CBSDFW.com
She is a very capable meteorologist and has an excellent background.
As far as I am concerned an equal to all of the the current know-it-alls except Harold.

Mark is now the 7 pm-midnight news anchor on WYAY, Atlanta's All News 106.7.

Scott was a weathercaster for WLKY in Louisville in the late 70's or early 80's as a near-kid. I don't think accreditation is all that important for a broadcast position.

When it comes to DFW, you would be wrong. This board will remind you we're market number 5. That means we're a heck of a lot bigger. What works in Louisville, Kentucky (#50) doesn't necessarily apply here. Plus I think more stations are trying to get meteorologists to raise their reputations, even if they have to go to Mississippi State to find them.

Marks' a great guy. I worked with him in Kansas in the 70's and again in Dallas during the brief life of "All News 94.9 KEWS" in the early 90's.

He's a good guy and I wish him the best of luck with the new gig in Hot-lanta...

Brad Barton is the go-to guy on radio, then and now.

It's a little aggravating, though, that WBAP is the primary EAS station for DFW and you have to wait for them to send the alerts down the line before you can get more info from Brad.

I agree, Triple Fake Jerry. When I was at KRLD, we dropped the EAS tones and used our own "weather-beep" attention signal. But now that I'm at the Primary EAS station in North Texas, we must follow the protocol, play the opening tones, closing tones, etc.
That's why I put out a "pre-warning" listing the warning and county before activating the tones. That way, you get at least something of the warning before the formal EAS. And as you say, I come back on with more detail after we close the EAS.
That's why I established WeatherInTouch.net where you can get live-streaming coverage of the storm on what amounts to an open mic in the WBAP Weather Center. You can hear it on the weatherintouch.net website and also on most smart phones by opening the text alert link that goes out to subscribers.

A few unrelated things since I last posted..I still love my job and all the great people at WBAP including ex-KRLD'rs Carla Marion, Mark Watkins, Doug Helton (as of this weekend) plus Hal, Sean, Steve, Brian, Laura, Monty and Tyler. Of course it's not the same under Cumulus, but what is?

Also, Alex Burton was a good friend of mine when we used to be neighbors in Oak Cliff. I saw him many times at Treemont, including last Thursday when a neighbor John Williams and I talked over old times, Oak Cliff, Alex and other mutual friends. Mary Jane and the nurses came. John and I left and in a few minutes he was gone. A couple weeks back, Rick Ericson, Lisa LeMaster and Ken Fairchild all walked in..the first time the five of us had been in the same room in over 30 years. It was a sweet reunion I'll never forget.

Goosman brings 26 years of experience in radio and television to the CBS-owned KRLD in Dallas. Most recently, he was chief meteorologist for KDAF-TV in Dallas-Fort Worth. Prior to that, he held the same position at KDVR-TV in Denver. He also served as chief meteorologist for KRLD’s sister CBS Television station KTVT (CBS 11) in Dallas-Fort Worth for nine years. In addition, he has worked at stations in Providence, Rhode Island, and Richmond, Virginia.

Bob's a great guy and an excellent meteorologist. I was his backup in the transition days at KTVT Channel 11 as we moved from Gaylord to CBS. I learned a lot from him. I'm sorry he's not Chief at one of the local TV stations.
My experience has been that most successful radio broadcasters are not nearly as good on TV and the same applies in reverse (Jody Dean, a notable exception)
It's a mistake to think a radio guy "moves up" to TV and that a TV guy "moves down" to radio. Each medium requires different skills and talents. I wish him well.
I hope they treat Bob with more honesty and respect than they did me.
By the way, the best News Director we ever had there was Ken Fairchild. He assembled a dream team from 1978 through 1981 including Lisa LeMaster, Ruth Allen, Peter Gardner, Bob Barry, Ray Walker and many others. He's been in precarious health for some time. Currently, he's undergoing post-hospital rehab at Presbyterian Village North.
