I've been enjoying these lately, as afternoon news was something that I felt was missing on KLUV.
The first job I had in Dallas Radio was as a board operator at NewsTalk 57 WFAA, and after running the board and training myself to meet the CBS News to the second at the top of the hour, I've had some rather unusual radio listening habits since the late 1970s. Any hour of the day or night, whenever I'm listening to the radio in my car, as soon as the time comes up to the top of the hour, I'll almost always switch over to one of the AM stations for news on the hour.
I'll listen to the news, listen to a couple of minutes of Talk Radio to see if its interesting, and then switch back to music radio on FM.
I even have my digital wristwatch synchronized with the CBS time tone from KRLD, which due to digital delay is not always the true time to the second anymore.
It's actually pretty cool, because I'll be listening to a station like KLUV, and will often switch over to KRLD or WBAP 10 seconds before the top of the hour, in much the same fashion as if I were running the board.
While it may sound to some like the listening habits of a "radio weirdo," at least I'm not switching from FM to AM every ten minutes to catch the Traffic and Weather Together on the 8's...
