KRMG Morning News

Yes and no.

1.) Joe Kelly has turned off the anti-Obama pandering spigot that defined his show from 2009-2010. He's dumped Rick as a side-kick and the pace of the show has improved tremendously. Joe does not wear on me nearly as bad. I'm sure I just boosted his ego 10 fold, so he can thank me later.

2.) The back to back to back to back collection of random people in the building reading random stories off the wire is one of the most bizarre segments.

3.) The poor woman who anchors the news segments is in over her head. She is constantly stumbling and seems extremely nervous. Is it the cameras for the simulcast? Is it Joe? Is it the 2am alarm clock? Whose decision was it to put her on such a high profile show? I would put her on a lower profile weekday shift to cut her teeth as an anchor. Not being mean, just honest.

4.) The newscasts have become very bizarre and random. The anchors appear to just sit in the building and write off the wall stories for the website and do newscasts, they no longer report on scene. The station has 2-3 people it actually sends out to cover news unless it is "KRMG StormCenter" time. I don't know if this is a cost savings thing. I've always wondered since they have 2-3 station cars, if they're all taken, do KRMG staffers drive their own vehicles when covering storms?

5.) I will be honest, the quality of the news has gone down the tubes since Jon Durkee left. Every Durkee hire has been purged, which should tell you something.

Durkee is perhaps the best news director this town ever saw. Brian at KVOO is terrific, also. They understand the craft of news reporting.
