KRMG News Changes????

Has KRMG hired a replacement for John Durkee yet?
Also, I was listening last night at 7pm and noticed KRMG taking the first 2:00 of AP Radio News at the top of the hour versus local content. I'm not sure if this is a temporary or a permanent change. Usually KRMG takes the first 2:00 of AP Radio News on Weekend Afternoons, Evenings, and Overnights.
KRMG is one of the few stations left in this part of the country that starts with local news at the top of the hour.
Also, does KRMG have any plans for Paul Harvey's slot? With his replacements getting a thumbs down nationwide, I wonder if KRMG will keep the franchise going once Harvey steps aside.
 
Haven't heard about the unanimous thumbs down on Harvey's fill-ins...but once he's gone the show HAS to be gone. Only one person can pull that format off...and it looks like those trying to impersonate him in style...aren't the real thing, in the hearts of the audience! When Paul is thru we may say goodbye to that kind of cast forever.
 
I don't want to get off topic too much, but why do Ron Chapman and Paul Harvey Jr. imitate Paul Harvey's style word for word when filling in? It's kind of annoying.
To me it's nothing more than a bad impression. Not that I'm a fan of either one, but if someone is filling in for Rush or Hannity, they don't imitate either broadcaster's voice or inflection when speaking. Then why do it with Hravey?
It's one thing if Paul Harvey Jr. gets his dad's gig and wants to use that speaking style. But for anyone else to do it that way it's just plain dumb. :mad:
If Paul Harvey's News & Comment ceases then where will our country's seniors learn about the virtues of the Bose Acoustic Wave, Buick, the Sleep Number Bed, Gold Bond Medicated Powder, etc....?

I don't know about Ron Chapman, but I think that's the way Jr really talks.

(I heard Mike Huckabee filling in for him today. He kinda, sorta sounds like a young Harvey, without coming across as an impersonator. Not great, but not bad.)

Brian Gann should jump the Journal ship before it becomes completely water logged and sinks. He's a good news man with a skeleton crew for a news team, thanks to JBG's budget woes. He's usually there from 7A-7P and if there's severe weather or breaking news, the poor fella is stuck there 'til all hours of the night.
 
I can remember back in the 70's in the old KVOO bull pen in the Peoria studios, we would lament all of the famous people who had worked at KVOO. We were always in awe of having worked at the same place as Paul Harvey. You have to admit, he was an original. Or so it seems......in the 20's and 30's there was a fella from Claremore named Will Rogers who kind of had a nasaly way of talking too. Witty fella. I think maybe Paul learned something from Will where it came to just sounding like yourself. Paul did just that. I think Paul Jr. naturally sounds like his dad. My father and I sound so much alike it's scary. :eek: Ron Chapman has always sounded the way he sounds. I used to listen to him in Dallas back in '72 when he did mornigs on KVIL and he sounds just about the same.
When Paul is carried feet first out of the studio, "News & Comment" will be the end of an era for that great broadcaster. His son is certainly capable of carrying that torch forward, but probably with his own stamp on it.
Brian Gann is the most gifted and talented, under appreciated broadcaster in the Tulsa market. I would love to see Brian go to KRMG. He could have gone to Chicago years ago. Most people didn't know that. He's had plenty of opportunities, but he chose family over career moves. I would say Brian Gann is the last of the truly great KVOO AM giants to leave the frequency either when he chooses to or is just made an offer he can't refuse from some station or market that's far better.

Brian Gann would make a great ND for KRMG. So would Richard Dowdell, Glen Schroeder, Marshall Stewart, and Neal Kennedy IMO.
To say KFAQ has a skeleton news staff, you must be talking about skeleton that doesn't have any arms or legs.
Lori Lindquist is doing mornings, Audra Lee does mid-days, and Brian Gann seems to fill in the rest during the week. The news updates are short, like 90 seconds, and you very rarely see KFAQ news on the scene of anything these days.
Most of the sound used is pulled off the phone. I'm sure KFAQ does a large amount of voice tracking. I've driven by their studios at 6pm and the parking lot is empty.
I know Brent Smith and Jack Bush are part of the news team, but they also do their fair share of board op work. Brent produces Chris Medlock's weekday show and Jack Bush produces Elvis Polo's Saturday Night show.
I don't know what your politics are, but I enjoy KFAQ when it discusses local issues only. Medlock's program is a good listen and Elvis can be very enteraining on a Saturday night. If we didn't have KFAQ, Tulsa would not have any real kind of local talk.
With that said, I'm concerned about the future of Journal Broadcasting. B/c it's losing millions of dollars, it doesn't sound like a stable place these days, but really what is stable these days?
