Have anybody noticed that since KRNB has made it to the 7th spot, they have came to a standstill? They are playing the same ol' songs over and over when they used to add new music on a regular basis. No specialty shows besides "The Quietstorm". No interesting weekend programming, (ex. "Ladies of Neo Soul Weekend", etc.). You'd think once you've achieved success, you would keep striving to be the best.

Yeah, but that's the standard in urban radio, by and large. Radio One perfected that lethargic stance. You know, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Why spend money on extra promotions, deals with agents and MDs or expanding the playlist when what you have has brought you this far.

That's largely why the Fly Jock flew the coop. He wanted a bigger book and he knew he couldn't do that if he had to obey "the man". And look at him now... oh wait, that's Steve Harvey. My bad. ;D

But that is the Status Quo for Service Broadcasting. They do nothing to make themselves stand out from other stations. But when I guess you dont have to when your competition does nothing either.

You are CORRECT SIR!

I would rather be at a station where I am fighting tooth and nail for position. Then to be working for an uncreative, lethargic station.

And it's sad, because they have come such a long way from where they were at, only to do the typical "Service Broadcasting thing", and get the "Big Head", thinking, "That's enough, we are on top now..."

Of course its sad. But since Radio One is only concerned with market share and not trying to be Number One, why should Service even try hard. Deep down I think KRNB could be a big problem for KKDA-FM, but we know that Daddy Ken will not let that happen. It would be nice if a little "in house" competition would happen.

I couldn't have said that any better myself. I noticed that Radio One do this in all their markets. It's like they are content with just being around. When I heard young people calling KRNB requesting that "New R&B", I said then that KRNB could steal some "Fizz-O" listeners. I guess it just isn't meant to be....

No way. And Salem is dead on. Radio One enjoys their oligopoly in most markets. They are the big brother that allows certain "Service"s and "McClatchy"s to air "their music" in other markets. Man, I wish someone would knock them off with a good Nu Soul or Old School alternative.

What if the three of us get together, air this format and include all SJ as our own version of the quiet storm? I smell cash mon-ay! ;D

Neo Soul could be a viable format here, but I think it would do really well in ATL or New Yuck City. We would really have to identify our audience, the potential advertisers and overall marketing strategy. I have some what of a marketing plan in my head. I have logos, show ideas and the like already. But its not cookie cutter radio. Its definately something that is out of the box.

I LOVE Neo Soul. It would have to be on a real good signal, but what would we name it?

Thats a topic for off the board.....I don't want folk stealing my ideas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, but the fact that we all have them says something. IJS ;D

True. But I am open to sharing. Any one got a spare $160 million. That's what I estimate that it would take to effectively launch the station I have on paper right now.
