KROCK 92.3 to be unveiled Jan 17th

As long as it's still the more mature-based Alternative that they've been the past few months and nothing like their sister K-ROCK in Pittsburgh, fine by me!

Hopefully they'll share imaging (VO or pieces) with L.A. and Pittsburgh. Would really step it up.
______________

Here's an interesting portion of the FMQB article:

"One of the biggest things we're hearing over and over again [on the listener calls] is variety," says (WXRK/92.3 PD Kim) Monroe. Depth tracks from core Alternative artists and occasional dead segues between songs with no imaging are elements that the station has incorporated into their new on-air approach. "How old school is that?," Monroe laughs. "We're having fun, and it's fun radio to listen to. The response has been overwhelming."

Thinking about it, "Xtreme Radio" (and the WXTM calls) really was doomed from the start, before Kim even GOT there, no?

I wouldn't be surprised if...

... the krockradio.com domain - which now redirects to the new 923freefm.com website - is the new domain for 92.3 in Cleveland.

Why not, they already got their call letters...
______________

Isn't 92.3 the frequency for WFNY?

It sure is.

I don't think they'll direct that URL over until they're reasonably sure that they won't get any Howard Stern-replacement-seeking stragglers out of New York.

Why Name Change Is Important To 92-3 As Well

One connection between 92.3 "broadening the playlist", as has been said... and changing the name...

The "Xtreme Radio" handle really only speaks to a certain relatively narrow young male listener base. "K-Rock" is a less narrow on-air moniker.

For one, look at me. I'm out of their target audience, at least back in the "Xtreme" days. And I didn't ever really tune into it, because "Xtreme" sounded to me like a station for really young guys (say, 12-24). And that's pretty much knowing what they had to offer...which I may or may not have been interested in, anyway. But "Xtreme" was a name that all but hung a virtual "Boyz Club Rulez Here" sign in front of the radio.

Re: Why Name Change Is Important To 92-3 As Well

O-As points on the ''Extreme'' issue are valid ones..

I've been to ''Extreme'' radio remotes in other markets where the format has been successful..and I was often the oldest person there by a good 10-15 years or more..

I'm curious about two points...

Will we be seeing more of a broader scoped ''radio war'' between a ''new'' K-Rock and WMMS?

How much of the Stern audience will Rover pick up in the Winter and Spring Books? Will WMMS' morning effort see any kind of bump as well?

Good point.

A really good sounding Alt/90s station, plagued by a poor signal, is WRWK/106-5 The Zone Toledo. PD is Dan McClintock. Station sounds really good. I believe Dan and Kim worked together in Youngstown at one time.
______________
