KRock and Jocks

It has been 3 months since Krock returned. There has been no jocks besides Opie and Anthony and the same stale music since the new PD cam on board. So September is coming and stil no jocks, so when will Krock bring the damn jocks in? It's getting hard to keep listening to the station without personalities on air.

They let the station go stagnant losing whatever chance they had to build and keep an audience after the format change.
I also noticed today that the audio sounds like Q104.3 and grits on my nerves a bit. Very loud with a little reverb. Great way to give the station the smell of death like the Q.

I wish I had the time to install sat. radio in my car. This has to be the worst NYC radio has ever sounded.

I mean i listen to the morning show but Krock sucks after that and especially with no new music? Come on, peoples patience is starting to get short here and Tracy better get some jocks in here so the station can live up to its potnential.

Its almost as if CBS is trying to make up the cash for 101 having jocks, by not having them on 92.3. Prior, it was vice versa.

K-Rock is being set up for failure, unless it adds jocks and currents.

Bingo and emphasis on currents. They should be playing 20-25 cuts from the current Active Rock chart.

Adding Jocks is meaningless if the playlist is stale and without enough currents. All this calling for jocks, I just hope it does not end up with too much talk or bringing back anything from Free-FM. If they want to provide background on the artist/track like the jocks do on the "The Peak" then I have no problem with it and it would be welcomed.

I like O&A but believe they have no place on a music station. Talk should be on a talk station, music only on music station, period. It truly blows commuting an hour or more in the morning and not having a rock station playing currents (or even 80s and 90s). Q104.3 is truly an awful rock station with the same tired old beat to death songs and their crappy audio (reverb and loudness)

does anyone notice that KRock keeps posting...unposting...posting...unposting...for onair positions? maybe anyone worth hiring ISN'T applying...who wants to re-locate to NYC, have do deal with the salary they are paying, and worry about CBS potentially flipping a failing station AGAIN...every time i read the job posting, i think to myself..."hrm, that WOULD be nice"...then 5 minutes later i appreciate the job i ALREADY have, and forget about it!...

isnt it sad that someone would have to question whether or not a move to NYC would be GOOD for their career?

It is sad. I currently work part time on air in a top 20 market. One of the other part timers asked me if I was going to put in for a gig at Krock. She was shocked when I said no. I can't see giving up what I have developed at my station to consider taking a job that could be gone in a month if the station flipped. A few years ago I may have done differently but these days I don't trust the management there at all. You can call me crazy but I've been full time and had a 10.2 in my time slot in my demo in my last book before a crazy GM let me go for "Budget Cuts". After that happened I'll work with the trustworthy management at a top notch station even though I am currently only part time.

92.3 Jack-FM, Maybe

If K-Rock fails without any of these jocks, why not put "Jack" on 92.3, but not on 101.1's HD-2. I wish Howard Cogan needs help. As Allan Sniffen might say "Put 'Jack' to 92.3!" That's all I have to say. I hope if K-Rock will continue to fail in the first ratings period in the Arbitrends, I hope "Jack" will end up on 92.3, maybe someday. :)

But it doesn't have to be this way. New York needs a good rock station like a heart needs a beat. If done right, K-Rock has the potential to be a success. A much bigger success than jack.

I long for the way K-Rock was back in '04-05 (before Great Rock, Period.) Sure, there might have been a slight emphasis on nu-metal stuff but at least they were expanding their horizons (playing Franz Ferdinand, Muse, etc.) Now it's just a total borefest. Even good jocks won't be able to save this station if the playlist continues to consist of the same 150 songs.

Keep O and A on at Krock. The most talk should take place during drive time. People can hear the same 15 songs over and over again throughout the day. But when Tracy brings in her Afternoon drive show, keep the music to a minimum (2-3 songs/hr) similar to how the Wendy Williams Show is. And yes, drop the fossil rock music and put on some currents please!
But this also brings into question of Tracy's PD ability. She did work for Hot 97 for over 10 years, so she really didn't have to try very hard to be PD and the station would still be number 1. Now she has a lot of work to do and the end result is not looking pretty and not living up to expectations.

ugh, it is a rock station, not a talk station. As for the same songs over and over, I heard the jocks during the hostile take over mocking how great hearing "AC/DC shook me all nigh long" over and over again is. My sentiments exactly, it is like who are these people that can take hearing this crap over and over again, year after year, day after day.

Someone should put together a post of the most played out songs in NY radio per format and post it all over the net. Maybe then these PD's will do something about the stale playlists.

Do you guys Have anything positive to say?
you guys Bitch Bitch Bitch I am sick of it! Didn't many of you want k-rock back? hell I had an anxiety attack when I found out it was back.
Excuse my spelling as usual but here's my rant

Having k-rock back is F-ing Awesome!
sure yes i am by far sick of most of the stuff in rotation, wishing K-rock was more like WAAF, WCCC, WTOS, or Lazer 99.3 and several rock stations is other markets. from what I hear Danni Got to program k-rock when it was good for the 1st two weeks then they decided to have the guys from kroq in LA program it. an since then I agree that it has not been as good as Memorial day weekend.
if you guys are sick of one song learn to use your other presets and come back when k-rock plays a better song. thats what other presets are for. however, i do agree morning shows can really suck.
other stations for you presents de
WPDH, (106.3) WAXQ 104.3, and WBAB, 95.9 WFOX/95.9 WRAT, 107.1 the peak are for.
DID any of you bother to listen to k-rock today (friday) between 3-7pm?
I was blasting out to all the songs that they did not play in rotation today.
Metallica - Battery, Judas Priest - Electric Eye, And Disturbed - Land of confusion. some of the several songs I liked
this summer, Its nice to be able to at work my 3 jobs And pass many people over the summer that actually are listening to k-rock. I heard many people complain that hip-hop has sucked this summer. what I see, people that are primarily listening are 18 year olds to people in their 30's+.

as for you guys that complain about q-104.3, I have noticed at certain times of the day they play overplayed garbage, but then hours later they will play stuff songs I have not heard in weeks that is classic rock. I give em props for that with K-Rock back I have also noticed that this has pushed Eddie Trunk on q-104.3 to play harder Rock and talk Less for those who are up on late Friday nights

106.3/101.5 WPDH they kick ass especially when they do specials like an A-Z weekends ETC.
107.1 the peak as well has been kicking ass this summer especially with the blues music they add.

back to the dj's:
I do agree that k-rock should Get dj's who was that guy that introduced a finger 11 song paralizer last friday night around 8pm a board op?

My resume:
Allthough probably useless, I did bother to submit it to em with my 3 min demo. this is one of a few stations I did submit my resume to In hopes I can get an internship to get more experience in radio.

well thats my rant
continue to bitch, mock me, torchure me, complain Etc, your gonna do it anyways

I've been through the city twice since K Rock has been back and listen to O&A from Boston alot. The morning slot has been like that on K Rock with Stern-- why complain now? The only basis for complaints is the numbers aren't what they were, obviously-cmon nobody is Stern. Would tossing in a song hurt them? Nah... but these guys gotta feed their egos, I got nothing against them, but thats what they are about and so be it. Flip around for music in the morning. I do have to agree the music has gone stale-- Danni did an incredible job on Memorial Day Weekend and I think too many people assumed K Rock would stay that great throughout time, but guys we are talkin CBS here-- you can't presume what you like will be kept in prestine condition over an extended period of time and the NY market is a prime example of that. It does seem that Tracy is kinda sitting back, at least from what is posted here, who knows? Once you experience riding the wave like she did at Hot 97, are you going to want to do much of anything again? lol I think that if they are going to keep boasting themselves as being the "Rock of New York", they need to pull in DJ's with personality that are local and live to relate to NYC and with them needs to come an amazing change and overhaul to the current playlist.. Toss more currents in there and put on specialty shows for Indie, New Rock, Local bands etc. With the debut of the on air line up and new music-- you keep it up and you can suck people in and hold on. Just a thought...

i understand your disgust that it is a rock station, not a talk station, but drive time is drive time, and people want to be entertained by personalities and you have to catch them like a hook. Thats why i suggested keeping the songs to a minimum and not completely going Hot talk in afternoon drive. You have to give up something to get something. Hopefully The PD can get the music director to switch it up a bit and add some currents. Im glad Krock is back like everyone else but we didnt want to be like the "Great Rock Period" era. We wanted something that skews to a younger audience and Krock has failed in every aspect of that so far. Maybe after Labor Day things will change for the better, who knows, but it looking pretty bad right now.

I think K-rock should be like The edge or, WHRL in albany. Did K-rock really play battery? that's awsome! Maybe they're making changes slowly, its just going to take time. I'm patient, and i still listen.

Krock needs to go the way of WRFF 104.5 in Philly. The buzz about it in the younger demo down there is interesting.

their was a jock tonight Mon 8/27 I think 7-10pm. does anyone know if this is going to continue?
I thought he was ok.
