Kroger and Albertsons in talks of a merger

People only see the retail side of things. What they don't see is the mega-conglomerates that control the wholesale side of the food business. The corporate farms that are putting family farms out of business. The government subsidies that cause us to buy a lot of food from foreign countries. The retail side is just the tip of the iceberg.
True and we have to go all the way to Cargill and ADM the major agricultural commodities investment group and how they respond to crop and livestock values which in turn leads to food processing companies and retail to respond to the conditions of the time. This is all partial answers and the factors leading up to the proposed merger between Kroger and Albertsons is yet to be confirmed in this case.

Interestingly Canada and Australia have similar issues for different reasons.
