KRON 4 in the SF Chornicle

Did anybody read the story today (4/5) about KRON 4 in the Datebook section?

Here's the link below.
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/04/05/DDGBNI2OF41.DTL&hw=KRON&sn=001&sc=1000
Edited by e-dawg on 04/06/06 05:17 AM.

The article seems to have two mistakes.

The first is that "TV newsrooms typically don't make a profit".

While there are local TV news operations that lose money, I would ventuire to guess that most local TV newsrooms in fact are profitable, and sometimes, very profitable.

The other mistake was identifying the target audience of My Network TV, with which KRON-4 will soon be an affiliate of, as being "18-to-45 year old men". Based on the Telenovella-type programming MTVN will run in the Fall, I would think women between 18 and 45 would be the more likely target audience.

As for the issue at hand, such "product placement" should never be done on a news program. I see no problem in product placement on a talk, entertainment, or magazine show, as long as such a show is not produced by the news department and that such sponsorship is adequately identified.
