KRON 4 News

Since San Francisco is #6 in the Market, why does KRON 4 news look so ameuturish? Do they use BetaSP for video tape. Their news stories looks like a pubic access channel, no wonder why KRON 4 news is in the last place in the ratings, they are barely cracking a 1.0 in the ratings.

Young and KRON instituted the new (old) concept of the "video journalist." Basically one-man bands where the reporter films and edits the story by himself or herself for broadcast. Once the province of small market stations (100 and below), it's making a comeback on the heals of the digital era and penny-pinching station owners.

Basically, instead of having a reporter and photog run out to cover a story and a seperate editor prepare it for broadcast, the reporter now does all three. I think the station has kept a few photogs around to run the ENG trucks for live breaking news events, but that's about it.

Young is in the process of instituting this at many of their other stations, including WKRN-2-Nashville.

Most or all of thier top reporters have left the building. Basically Young has citizens tape stories. I hope Young Broadcasting hits the road soon, because they have ruined KRON.

> > Given Young's original blunder of earth shattering magnitude...paying a record-breaking high price for KRON then losing the NBC affiliation...everything else stupid they've done pales in comparison. The seller- the Chronicle Corp (including members of the historic DeYoung publishing family...no relation to Young) must have laughed until their enormous trust funds exploded. Considering the huge debt that Young has to service, I'm surprised it hasn't turned into an infomerical outlet. Despite it all, they must manage to pay decent salaries to their anchors (Moore, Liviakis, etc), or they would have jumped ship by now, too.
