KRON REUSES OLD NEWSCENTER 4 THEME SONG

I've noticed that too as I watched a little bit of KRON 4 News at 9pm.

I wonder why....

Maybe KRON is so hard up for cash, they have to re-use old theme music. Actually, I remember that for what seems like two decades (80s and 90s), KGO-TV would change their theme music from time to time, but inevitably come back to that Van Amburg 70s era theme taken from the "Cool Hand Luke" movie. Probably because it's familiar to people, and it's cheaper than paying for new music.

Re: KRON REUSES OLD NEWSCENTER 4 THEME SONG-Maybe it didn't want to pay more

Its possible that KRON/Young Broadcasting didn't want to pay more money to continue to use the previous themes.

Several Sacramento stations, including CBS O&O KOVR (13) and Tribune's Fox KTXL (40) bailed to other music suppliers.

The Sacramento Bee's Sam McMannis chronicled those changes last month as contracts expired.

The music package for CBS 13 had been on the air only a short time (relatively speaking)... since the station premiered its revamped look in 2006.

I've read that the rights holder for that music began charging significantly more money around 20 years ago...which is approximately the last time the ABC O & O's used 'Cool Hand Luke'.

As for KRON (and other stations), Stephen Arnold Music's fees for his news music jumped significantly as of 1 Jan 07 - hence stations dropping themes, even after having them only a short time.

The only one of his packages I haven't seen being dropped like a rock is "The Rock" - his NBC affiliate package.

If I get any details, I'll post them.
