KROQ sponsored by T-Mobile all day last Thursday....

A co-worker told me this...He listens to their morning show(Kevin and Bean) and said that all they were playing were commericals from T-Mobile......Comments?? Costs??? I'm sure it has something to do with Cochella Music Festival also.....

I was listening to Kevin & Bean Thursday as well and noticed this. As someone who works in advertising, and having been associated with some large SoCal agencies, I can tell you that everyone is always looking for a way to break through the clutter and get noticed, and this was a good idea IMO. Not so sure it has to do with Coachella, but I have noticed how much at&t wireless airs spots on KROQ (often voiced by Lisa May), so this was a way for T-Mobile to get noticed, especially on a station typically dominated by a rival. I would not be surprised if we start to see more sponsored days. It's a win-win concept as the spot-load was noticeably lighter on KROQ that day, and T-Mobile got more long-term awareness than would otherwise be the case from running spots mixed into the normal trafficking of stop-sets.

It was a campaign that aired on a couple dozen stations around the country on a variety of formats to coincide with T-Mobile getting the ipHONE. Same strategy on all stations that participated.

In the past I've heard sponsors buy an entire hour, but the whole day is a new one. I would think that it made some impact for the sponsor.

I was talking to my niece last Saturday and she said that T Mobile was KROQ's sponsor out at Coachella for their booth at the festival.....
