KROQ

I live in Tennessee, and Ive been listening to the KROQ web stream constantly. I just want to say that all of you are very lucky to have such a great alternative rock station in your own backyard. Ive traveled around and many commercial, corporate, alternative rock stations don't come close to KROQ.

another good station is Live 105 in SF which streams live and one of the origionals CFNY 102.1 the edge from Toronto is also good.

Rock on, the World Famous KROQ

Should have heard them in the early 80's. It was "Totally hip man"!.

Agreed. Back then it wasn't a corporate entity, but a truly one of a kind station with a distinct Southern California flavor. DJ's were even allowed to choose tracks.

Of course, they did play a lot of Wham back then. Won't hear that on a "Flashback Weekend," now will you...

Wasn't it KLOS, though, that had the "totally hip" tagline? Or I think it was "Too Hip."

KLOS - "Too Hip"

KROQ circa 83-84 From an TV spot, that used to run regularly on air as well) "It's Hip, man, hip, like, the only thing happening"

Agreed. Great station. If CBS would put KROQ on the HD2 for one of their stations here in Cincinnati, I'd give up my XM.

World Famous KROQ

...and after so long telling us they were, now (thanks to the marval that is net streaming) they are the WORLD FAMOUS KROQ.

I have been waiting a long time for the stream, and now it is hear. It beat any station here in Australia (...yes, even TRIPLE J) hands down.

I am pretty sure the Jocks only picked one track per Hour. Still, they had a big say so in shaping the sound of the station.

KROQ used their "it's happening-totally hip" montage for years. KLOS on the other hand had the amazing Frazier Smith, and was indeed "too hip"!.

Re: World Famous KROQ

We even had Triple J (J.J. Jackson) as a KROQ DJ. We miss ya JJ!. Glad you are enjoying the ROQ down there in Australia. Tell a Friend, Pass it on!

I loved the way they used to play Dragnet snippets over the intro's to songs.
Those were the days.

# 1 KROQ Drop. "Men of Earth, We of the Planet Mars"...

give you this warning. Listen carefully and remember. We have known your planet Earth since the first creature crawled out of the primeval slime of your seas to become man. For millennia, we have followed your progress, for centuries, we have watched you, listened to your radio signals and learned your speech and your culture. And now, you have invaded our home. Technological adults, but spiritual and emotional infants. We kept you here deciding your fate. Had the lower forms of life of our planet destroyed you, we would not have interfered. But you survived. Your civilization has not progressed beyond destruction, war and violence against yourselves and others. Do as you will to your own and to your planet, but remember this warning - Do Not Return To Mars. You will be permitted to leave for this sole purpose - Carry The Warning To Earth. Do Not Come Here. We can and will destroy you, all life on your planet, if you do not heed us. You have seen us, been permitted to glimpse our world. Go now. Warn mankind not to return unbidden.
