KROQ2

Anybody been listening to KROQ's HD2 80's channel? Found it on Radio.Com, they are doing an A-Z weekend...been hearing a lot of cool songs I'd forgotten about. Do they have any HD listeners?

At least one that I know of.

KROQ2 is our favorite HD channel in our car. Others we like locally include:
* KKJZ 88.1 - HD2 is a standards / jazz hybrid
* KPCC 89.3 - HD3 retransmits The Current from Minnesota (this HD signal is HD3, not HD2 is quite weak here in Southern LA County)
* KCRW 89.9 - HD2 is their Eclectic24 all-music channel
* KKGO 105.1 - HD2 is K-Mozart
* KAMP 97.1 - HD2 is KNX in lovely FM clarity

I've been listening to it for about 4 years now. Freddy sounds like he is using a Ronco Mr. Microphone, and Jed is still great. This A to Z weekend is playing all sorts of stuff not normally played. With that said, the 8 minute commercial breaks, sometimes doubling to 16 gets old. Oh no Flo from Progressive is on now. Time to change stations and if you have Progressive, Auto Insurance companies!

If you count the ones listening via Aha Radio & other apps I'd say quite a lot. Via the flawed IBAC (stepping on the adjacents) I'd say not so many. :)

"ROQ of the 80s" is a good station. It's a kick listening to all those old KROQ songs and liners. I listen via TuneIn (I entered the stream URL directly). And yes, CBS' marathon ad breaks and ad insertion get pretty annoying, but luckily, there aren't as many breaks on the HD2s. The long, repetitive ad breaks are one reason I have difficulty listening to WXRT anymore.

At least Clear Channel gets the ad insertion right (often, they plug in music and it usually sounds seemless).

Another station similar to KROQ2 is their San Francisco sister, "Classic Live 105". Whereas KROQ2 is heavy on early-mid 80s, KITS2 leans toward the later part of the decade (they switched to modern rock in 1987).

The 91X Resurrection channel is also very cool - deeper cuts than KROQ2 or KITS2.

Also free of commercials!
