KROY's Blue Whiz Passes

Don't know if anyone on the Sacramento board remembers 1240 KROY's Blue Whiz, but he has passed away.
Also known as Bob Castle, he was one of KROY's premiere jocks in 1974 & 75 doing nights and later PM Drive.
A real high energy personality with quite a history at the old 1240. From what I understand he had been
working in Reno the last several years. I believe he was doing Classic Rock. He will be sorely missed...

Robert E.(Bob) Castle, known first as the "Blue Whiz" and then under his real name, Bob Castle to listeners of KROY, succumbed to illness at the age of 58. Bob passed on March 29 at his Reno home after a battle with Parkinson's disease as well as heart ailments for many years.

Bob Castle, was born Feb. 8, 1949, in Richmond, Calif., and was a broadcaster for more than 40 years. According to 1240KROY.com Bob had been inducted into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame. He did the evening and afternoon-drive shifts at KROY from 1973 to 1977, most recently working at KOZZ a classic rock station in Reno.

KOZZ Program Director Jim McClain, who in the 1970s was known as "Night Train" McClain at K108 (KXOA-FM) in Sacramento, passed on word of Castle's death. After becoming ill, Bob was able to work only work part-time. He leaves behind four children: Tim, Chris, Ryan and Danielle; and six grandchildren: Marcial, Tristan, Estevan, Riley, Kyndal and Hayden.
