KRQ in 1977

It was in the summer of 1977 that KXEW-FM became KRQ. I was looking through some junk in my family's attic and found this old aircheck tape. At the time the station was automated and I noticed a time check that was wrong by three hours.
As you'll see, this station has changed a lot over the years.

I managed to track down Dave Anthony who is now doing v/o work in Florida.

"Hey Dave...why don't you give the current temperature?" Oh yeah,
he's voicetracked.

I don't recall Dave Anthony's voice during the KRQ(Q...Tucson) early days,
but I do remember him in middays during the early 80s(?) on "KZZP Mesa,
KZZP-FM Mesa-Phoenix."

I do remember hearing Randy Lane voicetracked--a lot--during the first days
on the Q.

Thank you so much for sharing this. For those of us not here at that time it is great to hear.
The sound was not unlike many CHR stations of that era touting the benefits of stereo. Also the late 70's seemed to be a softer time musically in Top 40.

Would anyone happen to have any old airchecks of KRQ from the late 80's?

I was the Program Director of KRQ from 1987 to 1989, and I have more tapes from that period than anyone could
ever possibly want. ;D

Ahhh! Hello Clarke 8)

I remember you quite well! I used to live in Tucson, and KRQ was my favorite radio station... I remember Mike Elliott w/ Jordan and Thom in the morning, "Smokin'" Steve Hart.... The Saturday Night Party Patrol! ;D

Anyway, I now work in radio in the Boston market.... I plan on visiting Tucson again in the not-too-distant future, and perhaps move back there again one day (depends if the wife likes it out there).

Any chance that you could put a few of your old tapes up on youtube? Scoped would be fine. Thanks in advance! 8)
