KRQ Stunt

Hey, you're talking about it, so obviously it made some impact.

C'mon, these are the dumb things good morning shows do to shake things up. The best jocks do the crazy stuff.

...or send someone else to do it. And what do they say when some kid mimics this in the next flood or, say, hijacks an earthmover 'cause it's 'crazy'.

What's next? Send in someone to tell off-color jokes at a funeral? Now there's some wacky stuff.

Damn! Its called entertainment! If your kid hijacks an earthmover, that's your fault as a parent, not some "wacky" dj. Look, "wacky" morning guys have been doing stunts for years, props to jj&r for having the sack to make some noise by pushing the envelope. Its funny how most of the posts on this board come from the perespective of crusty old guys who forgot why radio was fun.

I guess it's a matter of perspective. There's funny, then there's stupid and irresponsible. Furthermore I don't see it taking a lot of "sack" to have someone else go into a potentially dangerous situation. That's bravery isn't it? Send someone ELSE into a storm swollen wash while they're hiding under a pair of headphones. Just like it was brave of them a couple of years ago to send someone ELSE into a situation where they would be either arrested or detained by the secret service at DM when the President was there.

What if the rafter the other day got stuck or into some perilous situation? Then a rescue team goes out to save him and one of the rescue team drowns? It was a ten year flood event the other day.

They have a stupid motorist law for a reason, don't enter running washes. The airwaves are public. The FCC licenses stations and holds them to a standard, whatever standards there are that are left in this society. Please tell me how that stunt served the public interest?

It's like the guys in Phoenix a year or so ago who called up a grieving widow to ask her out on a date--on the air--shortly after her husband died. Big yuks there, that's some wacky stuff. That was pushing the envelope. Yes, it made the paper and people talked about it but not in a good way. How did that serve the public interest?

There are plenty of funny things that morning shows do but do they also have to lower the bar in terms of taste and in this case stupidity?

Soazdude, Here is your mission:

Go to Blockbuster this week and rent "Jackass" starring Johnny Knoxville.

There will be a quiz.

Yeah, I know, it's what the market will bear. What is it that PT Barnum said, something about how nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American people.

I didn't hear the bit as it went down, and I doubt that the guys said, hey, this will get us in trouble and we'll get some press. Seriously, not a ground breaking stunt but, it got the press and nobody got hurt. Frank Show did this about 2 years ago with people hydroplaning by Staggs and nobody said squat. Have to agree with you Churchy, maybe we need to loosen up the ties and chuckle a bit. I still say if something happens in this town on the air, John Jay and Rich get the quote. I could die in a tragic Blimp Accident and the headline would read:

Local Radio DJ dies in a Blimp Accident, we asked KRQ Morning Show Host John Jay and Rich, Mornings 5:30am to 10, tucsons morning show, if the goodyear blimp is safe to ride in?

Nothing wrong with a little press, unless it involves Livestock.

"When questioned by authorities, Lamey responded: 'Honestly, officer, I was just helping it over the fence...'"

Nooo, it's being talked about because it was stupid--not because it was entertaining.

Wrong again. stunts are what talent-challenged jocks do to get attention when they realize their air-work won't cut it. The best jocks don't need 'em.
