KRQQ Country???

OK, so I am poking around on the Net, and I see all the CC stations have little links to their HD channels. Of course, there are four listed for Tucson (although there really are more, but only four are CC). KRQQ-FM says "New Country". I listen to it, and shucky dern, it IS country!

Why are they doing that? Is this a mistake/joke, or a really weird harbinger of a format change?

Maybe I'm wrong... Weren't radio stations being assigned the format of their HD signal?

As I understand it, you're not completely accurate, but you're on the right track.

Members of the HD Radio Alliance agree to work out the formats of their additional HD streams amongst themselves. From what I've heard, they agree not to duplicate any format already offered on FM or one of the other HD channels, thought that's a little subjective. KRQQ, for example, is new country, which is technically not duplicating KIIM because it airs some older cuts, too. They also agree to limit commercials to quick sponsorship announcements, and I believe they also limit the number of such announcements.

Also, that only applies to members of the HD Radio Alliance. A friend of mine works at a station that airs Jones smooth jazz on its HD-2, and it plays every network break. His station is not a member of said alliance and, thus, doesn't follow its rules.

...oh boy! another country station ? KIIM (like all other past country stations) will bury them. This will be very interesting to watch. ;D
