KRRG switched over to Country as of Midnight Saturday 2/4/06.
It's now called "Big Buck 98.1"

In my opinion it's definitely a welcome change. Laredo has been missing the country format on the FM dial since KOYE 94.9 "Y95" switched to KQUR "Qure FM" in 1999.

I've lived in Laredo the majority of my life and this is KRRG's first format change ever. Since as long as I can remember it's been CHR/POP. The moniker's have changed over the years from FM98 to Energy 98 back to FM98 and then most recently was "Mix 98.1"

KRRG was the only outlet for any kind of rock. It was mixed in with pop and some rhythmic. It's a shame that it's now gone. But at least it's a change to another decent format instead of another Spanish format station which are abundant in Laredo.

Now all Laredo needs is some outlet for CHR/Rock. In the meantime, I've got Sirius for that.

I recorded an aircheck of them in the early 90s when KRRG was a hot AC. It was using the "Energy 98" handle then.

I'd be kind of curious to get an aircheck of the new format (or anything else in the area) since it has been a long time since I've been there. I've got a couple of other airchecks of KOYE from its top 40 and country days in addition to the KRRG one I can trade.
